Anyone had any experience purchasing from Roden Gray?  I've been debating on buying a pair of Indy Boots for a while and they have them for $463.  This is the cheapest I have ever seen them.  Shipping is free but I've never purchased anything from Canada. Should I expect to pay customs/duties?  Thanks in advance.

Sorry, all, for the non-Alden question, but I'm looking for chelsea boots, a shoe that Alden doesn't make.  I figured I'd give Carmina a try but have no idea of their sizing.  Can anyone here help out with the conversion?  I'm looking at Carmina's Simpson and Detroit lasts; I'm a 10.5E / 11D on Alden's Barrie.  Thanks for the help, or any advice as to where this post might bet the best results.

My only purchase from rodenraywas a gitman shirt back in 2013. No additional brokerage fees or bs involved.

Very simple process, utilizing paypal iirc

Simpson and Detroit are almost opposites in terms of last shapes. Simpson is on narrow side while Detroit is a fuller size last. If you prefer 10.5E on Barrie then I wouldn't look at any Simpson shoes. Detroit equivalent would be either 9.5E UK or 10E UK (with conversion to 10.5D and 11D US).

Thanks -- that's very helpful.

Saw you posted on Epaulet thread as well and just realized I didn't read your sizing right, should have been 10UK or 10.5UK on the Detroit

I've got very little experience with Carmina but I am an 8D on Detrot and an 8.5D on Barrie.

Same here. 8UK Detroit, 8.5D Barrie. There's no way I could wear Simpson though. Too narrow.

Just a follow-up here. Nice CXL penny loafers that will make a great business casual and casual shoe. I am big on slip-on shoes and this is probably the only Alden slip-on shoe that I'd buy.

I emailed my local Alden dealer Sherman Brothers about this shoe. He said they were just announced and will check with Alden on availability. I'd like to see these in the flesh and not blindly order online. Both Alden SF and DC have them in stock. Do the corporate owned stores get new models first, followed by the independent stores?

Out of all the Carmina lasts I've tried, Detroit is the best fitting for me.

I wear 10E Barrie and UK 9.5 Detroit.

Detroit in that size fits ok, not as good as Barrie. IMHO.

One thing about Detroit though, for a bigger last, it is aesthetically pleasing, like, elegantly clunky if that makes sense.

Hope this helps!

My understanding is that many of these models that Alden stores sell are not available as standard stock for local men's clothiers.  They are considered special make-ups that retailers would have to order an entire size range (2 of every D-size between 7D and 13D).  I don't think Sherman Bros would be able to order just one of them for you. This is what a local retailer explained to me when I inquired about a suede LWB.  It may be though, that this chrmxl LHS has been added to the standard full stock offerings in the Alden catalog, which would mean local retailers would be required to stock it.  I can't confirm one way or the other.

Per Mike Sherman at Sherman Brothers...

"These shoes were just announced so we don't have them yet. I can check Monday for availability and let you know."

It appears that this shoe has been added to the standard full stock offerings in the Alden catalogue. I'll know today more today when Mike gets back to me.

Mike and the guys at Sherman Bros are great; very nice and helpful.  I hope you can get your chrmxl loafers.  Looks like a cool make-up!
