FWIW I've just passed the two year mark on a couple pre-orders from LS (#8 Pitt Boot and #8 shortwing) with no delivery date in site. Thankfully, I only put $100 down on each one and I'm willing to continue waiting but it seems like these are pretty standard makeups that should have been delivered by now....

LS has been doing 1 run, maybe 2 runs per year the last few years. Will at LS said that the my run will be available by the end of year, possibly even sooner. I can handle that!

Just sit tight with those preorders. They’ll come in sooner or later smile.gif

I believe if you paid in full up front (out of range sizes with Leffot, Alden Madison, JGilbert) then the price is locked in, however deposits like LS, Context, EP are probably subject to the market price of the shoe when they are delivered. I'm not sure how AoC would work, as the deposit is 1/2 of the total price.

MP, that's a crazy long wait time, for color 8! I'm sure you have considered AoC's offers, they have very similar make up but much faster turn-around time!

I have the Walnut shell Dundee but do not own an Alden chukka.  I did buy an Alden chukka dirt cheap with a discount code (25% off) from J Crew a year or two ago, but returned it because the fit was a bit insecure with only the two eyelets.  The AE Dundee has a sleeker looking last (1 last), and the shell has a great finish and look to it, but I'm not sure that is the norm.  I have returned multiple pairs of AE shell because of sub standard shell, but have found a winner with this...

I've got both and I like the Alden's better. I don't find the extra hole on the dundee's add any noticeable difference in support. Additionally, while I've often struggled with defining the difference between my Alden's and AE's, another forum member hit the nail on the head. My Alden chukkas have a 'presence' about them that my AE's simply don't possess.

If they were price neutral, I would go with the Alden's hands down. However, I don't know that the difference is worth an extra $100. Something else to consider is that the AE recraft is only $125 versus $170 for Alden's and AE will allow slight modifications when re crafting where Alden does not.

I've thought about it and I always tell myself that if I ever sell all the ones I have listed here (plus a few more in my closets that I never wear) and clear out some space before the stuff from LS is available, I'll go ahead and buy the plain toe boot through AoC. That one in particular has been calling my name a bit harder lately.

While I do not own either...I have bought and returned both...

@Shawnc is pretty spot on the Alden has more of a presence....that being said I prefer the AE and actually have another one being delivered today...my biggest issue is that I do not like all of the ripples and rolls the Alden shell gets in a plain toe setting and find that their chukka has more volume for my foot...Some love that though.

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping that the Dundee wasn't noticably sleaker as I want them to wear with jeans. All explanations and pictures have been extremely helpful. The Dundee in walnut looks amazing!

I just had a user named ROLATOR try to scam me out of my Aldens on the marketplace. Anyone know how to report a user like this?

Yeah the 511 last for the Dundee is not exactly sleek per say - I think you will be happy with them.

I don't think the Dundee is too sleek to wear with denim.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I think AE does a great job with these exotic cordovan colors. Almost like they don't have the extra polish or finish on them that the standard colors have. I have seen and experienced this with my own Truffle McAllisters which are by far the best cordovan in terms of quality. Basically no extra finish or polish on them, they are buttery soft and as smooth as glass and even have bloom. Your Walnut pair look to be the same way and are awesome looking by the way.

I have not tried on Barrie Chukkas yet but do really like the pair of Dundees I own in brown. For seconds pricing I am more than happy sticking with AE for Chukkas under $400, but anything more than that and I would have to consider the Alden Chukka.

Go for it, the 1 last is a great shape for casual wear. Debating a pair in burgundy at the moment, though I really prefer the darker Alden finish for color 8.

These look great. If I was concidering a burgundy I would go for the Alden version.
