Well my Jcrew Indys just got here! These are my first pair of Alden's. They look fantastic. I am just having the hardest time deciding if they fit my right. I usually wear a size 10 in most sneakers. I have a pair of red wings on Barrie last that fit me in 9.5D. I went with 9.5D with these Alden's. If I have them on with a thick pair of socks they seem to be ok. If I wear thin dressier socks then they feel to loose on my feet. Maybe a 9EE would do the trick but I don't think Jcrew offers these in anything but a D. Ugh this is a tough one! I am like 90% sure a 9D would be to tight. I think I will settle down some and stick with these 9.5s, I'll just have to always wear thicker socks. Anyways, thanks for all the knowledge from this extensive thread I have been reading through for a few weeks now.

Here they are!

@NAMOR
That's a blast from the past. I've uncuffed those pants since then.
Are you rereading the thread?

About to pull the trigger and cop some Alden 975's. Any folks on here willing to share some pics with their 975's with different outfits. Trying to get an idea what looks good with these. :satisfied:

Whenever I see this sentiment expressed about the 404, I can't help but think of the LL Bean Katadhin plain toe waterproof engineer boot. Chippewa made with an insulted, waterproof sock liner, tough as nails upper, and a classic Vibram lug sold that has the best grip of any boot I own. $244 with a lifetime guarantee. You get SO much more for your money, and it's a great looking boot. http://m.llbean.com/product.html#57044

Wow, that is cool and interesting? Is that their patina, color reflecting on the surfaces differently, just how they came out or the intentional design? I just haven't seen that model before.

Yeah, you have to be super careful your first steps in particular on a new pair of leather soles. I nearly ate it the other day going down stairs on my new C&J double monks. I hope that you enjoy them very much!

I think later this year I'll look at getting another pair, maybe chukkas or LWB's, but right now these are great and I've received quite a few compliments and catch people checking them out whenever I wear them. It's pretty funny. Just need to get some flat waxed laces and some venetian shoe cream for these guys.

I am glad to hear that you are enjoying them. Yeah, they start out somewhat stiff, but they do break in nicely after a few wears! Looking forward to what you get next.

Great looking boots. Congrats. IMHO, Indys are not intended to be worn with dress socks. If they fit with a more substantial sock I think you are good.
