Gentleman on the forum,

I am considering an Indy boot for my next purchase, would appreciate if you could enlighten me on the better of the 2 options, the 405 or 403 ie, calf vs chromexcel considering durability, comfort and all weather wear including rain and snow.

Much appreciate!

I have the 405 Calf skin. Personally I like the color better. My experience with Chromexcel leather is that it is very durable and supple. Too supple for me. If I'm wearing Indy boots, I want them to be tough, so personally I like the calfskin since it seems pretty tough.

Jstancato, much appreciate your reply. Are both at par in durability and all weather wear?

Would anyone mind posting or PMing the 7.5D and 8D irregular lists?

I have signed up at TSM several times but rarely seem to receive them.

Thanks in advance.

Yes! The cork sole is tough not great for snow or rain but other than that they are great! I have worn mine in snow and rain and with a little Montana Pitch Blend leather balm they have held up great.

I have the CXL...not calf and my only disappointment is the cork sole...Have a calf pair on the way to me so I will be able to compare more...I love the CXL version for the exact reasons mentioned...break in well, soft and mold to my feet...only wish they were on commando as no way am I heading out with snow and ice on the ground in them. Also the CXL version gives and I can wear with medium weight socks that I can not do with suede or shell indy's.

The NEO cork sole is very comfortable so if enduring wintery weather is not an issue then it will be fine.

Both are equally as durable. I think Chromexecel is softer right out of the box and will also look more the same over a longer period of time.

It probably comes down to which color you like better. The 403 (or JCrew Indys) are darker. [Not my pic]:

The commando sole is only slightly better in the snow actually. The best sole for the snow would be the full Vibram hiking sole of the Kudu Indys:

I really like the Neoprene cork sole for any times other than snow. It seems to last a long time and have good grip. I like it even better than a leather sole on an Indy boot, which is why I sold my Need Supply Church Hill Indys and went back to the J.Crew Indys.
