Does heel cup depth/height increase with shoe size? I started with 8D Indys but had a tiny bit of slipping in the heel and terrible forefoot pain. Went down to 7.5D Shell Longwings thinking the pain was cause by looseness but it turns out I really need orthopedics to stop the pain. The problem is the Birkenstock Blue Feet I'm using take up too much volume in the rear and push my heel up above the the curve of the heel of the shoe so my heel slips up with every step. If I went back to 8's, would the curve of the heel of the shoe hit my heel higher up or would the shoe simply be longer? Same question for the general volume of the shoes. This sucks. I've got a $600 pair of shoes that I may need to take a hit on in B&S (and they're tiny too) and no gaurantee that the next size up will be any better.

For the hardcore Alden addicts, do you guys own any other makes or just Aldens?

For me, just Alden. While I see other shoes I really like, my fear is developing another addiction. Staying with one brand means I'm always comfortable getting another pair (because I've got my sizing down) and it limits the amount of damage to the wallet.

I'd love to get into C&J, Trickers and some of those other English brands!

For me, Paul Smith, C&J, and Tricker's. Even some Prada and a few AEs.
But only 2 pairs of EGs and one Lobbs.

Alden shoes were mentioned in today's edition of "How To Spend It" in the Financial Times. Alain Ducasse (chef of 27 restaurants) says he owns 10 pairs in black and 10 pairs in brown.

I'm working on becoming an addict. I'm adding a three or four Aldens in the next few months. However, I like black calfskin over black cordovan, and I think other shoemakers do calfskin a bit better than Alden. I already have a Church black captoe, I'm gonna add a black Church wingtip soon.

For me, just Aldens and the ever-classic UGGS.

(That has to be one of the most irritating interfaces I've experienced in some time.)

They must make it irritating so people want to buy the print edition. The magazine (comes with the paper every other week or so) is one of most ridiculous things I have ever read. The first ad is for Edmiston Yachts.

Interesting answers, fellas. I would eventually like to venture out to EG and C&J shoes. I looked into C&J before, but man....local retailers are hard to find. By local retailers, I actually mean those within the U.S. Prior to owning Aldens, I owned a pair of AE's before. I think the quality of Alden shoes is of much higher standard. As for Aldens: I'm on hiatus at the moment. I still need (in no particular order): Whiskey cap toe bluchers or boots, natural chromoexcel Indy's, black blutchers of some kind, and maybe a pair of brown monk's.
