Tom - this is my submission for your next Alden contest!

You're joking right?

Hopefully some of the experts can chime in, because I feel like I just got swindled:

Picked up a pair of Tan Calf NST Shoes from eBay, and just got it in the mail a few minutes ago. As the seller described, they are in brand new condition, possibly worn once or twice. But here is the problem, the seller claimed he purchased them a few years back and has had them in his closet ever since.

Well I pulled them out of the box I noticed that the crepe sole was ROCK HARD. Can't even flex the shoe it is so stiff. It feels like there is a block of wood attached to the sole/heel. It appears that the crepe sole has completely dried out! (The uppers are not dried or cracked in anyway, they are in brand new condition).

So. . .is there any way to bring it back to life? Or is my only option to send them back to Alden for a resole at my cost?

Ouch. That's tough. I don't think you can soften the crepe. I would contact the seller because they will probably need a full resole.

It could be an honest mistake.

Update on 404's with separated sole - shipped the boots out last Monday and got them back today. They put a new vibram sole on both of them and new laces. Only disappointment is that they did not ship them back with the green box I shipped them down in, they came back with a shiny white box with no labelling (bummer).

Psyched to have them back for the next snow storm...

Dumb question. If I fit in a sz 10 trubalance last (i.e. Indys), is it safe to assume that I should fit in a sz 10 barrie last considering they are both around 1/2 a size larger then your true size?

Yes - I find trubalance to be slightly larger even than Barrie.

whiskey lw came today. color is great, though the left shoe is almost a 2-tone color. I couldn't get the iphone camera to capture it fully, but you can kind of see it here.
