as we are both fans of the Modified last how about this description given to me by a friend working at Alden.

"The Modified last is quite a special last and I would not compare it to other lasts. That means, the fitting qualities are unique to the last.

It is designed to give a narrow foot more arch support, so yes, that is why you feel taller - the heel, the inside heel counter, the tight "waist" area of the shoes all gently push your arches upwards, relaxing the insides of your legs and making you back more relaxed as well. And as your arches are pushed up, the toes fall forward and inward - so, again yes, we built more toe room into that last. And THAT is why the sizing is different, because your toes are not exactly extending forward, but rather, falling towards the inside of your body. It feels like a massage all day long, doesn't it ?"

I may be the only person on the planet who goes TTS on the Modified...........

Gentlemen,
What do you think about the stitching on the sole being so close to the edge in the first photo? Send it back or nothing to worry about?

I like this shoe and the navy suede version. How do you guys wear these? Could they still work in an office setting?

I think they work very well for a biz caz kind of environment. You can keep them toned down by wearing earth tones and solid-colored trousers. I think as long as nothing about you/your outfit screams, "Look at my f'ing green shoes!" then it should be fine. Of course, if it is nothing but gray and navy worsted with black captoes for miles around your office... then... maybe not.

Also, I think Unionmade has a model with green stitching on the toe, which makes it less conspicuous in my opinion.

It looks like someone just got a little too ambitious with the belt sander when finishing them. I personally would not think twice about it and wear them proudly.

No worries there. Seems still have a good 2.5mm+ at worst point. Alden's channels are not not very wide/deep to begin with so I would not worry about it chipping off. Enjoy the shells!

It's not rarely seen in Aldens, I remember seeing a youtube video complaining about this problem too.

And I am with BenLeaman, I would wear them and if it turned out bad after some wear. Contact the reseller or Alden at that time and I sure they will take care of you.

I think it is fine with earth tones as well. I have a pair of monks in that olive suede and people seem to love them when I use earth tone dress wool or tweed pants.

Those are terrific, I just got a pair of these yesterday. I was inspired by DV's post last week and randomly did a google search on them to find a pair on the Marketplace for $275. It was meant to be!

Love the Alden Tassel, however, the Loden is outside my color palette, but I am glad to hear that you are excited about them! Enjoy them in the best of health my friend!

Gnatty, how many honey-do's did you have to do to get her to take a pic with you? Nice Indy's.

And these came in from Bnelson today! Would highly recommend him to anybody wanting a resole. They originally had the commando sole with black edge/welt and i wanted something with a little more pop to it. As i have #8 Indy on commando also.

Both of those look terrific. Would you know if those natty CXL are the old ones made on the Leydon Last? I love that particular model...

Terrific looking LWB. The calf models are very under utilized here.

Chris, you should take the Ravello Boots my friend. However, if you are going to pass on them, these are a great alternative. Hope that the Trubalance Last is working superbly for you!

Tifosi, looking great in the classic 4060! Enjoy them in the best of health today. You should post a summary pic at the end (it is okay to post EG's this time). :-)

Shoetree, that shouldn't be much of an issue. I have a pair or two in which they got "aggressive" with the welt stitch and not had a problem. Enjoy them (whatever they are!) in the best of health.

Overall, killer showing today gents!!!
