Both of these differ from most basic "captoes" from Alden due to the perforations (holes) on the edge of the captoes. I prefer this detail, some do not. If you are indifferent; however, you could get the Alden 4060 which is on the sleeker Grant last, sans perforations. That boot is also very popular.

Leffot occasionally has their "naval boot" makeup which is almost identical to it's J. Crew/The Shoe Mart counterpart, for the exception of a few key details.

1. It has an "antique" edge dressing. Meaning the edges of the leather sole (that you see) are a light golden tan. Most consider this a more casual feature.
2. All eyelets. So no speed hooks.
3. No accent stitching.

So there's that.
Great minds, Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Looking good in your Navals, I agree with your assessment. The JCrew Naval is a nice half-way point between the 4060 and the Leffot Naval in my opinion. :-)

Since then I've worn them more casually. The nap of the suede on the toes is pretty worn-- to the point that brushing doesn't really bring it back. It also shows spots, but hey, they're boots.

Those boots are still looking good, continue to take care of them and they should continue to last a while. And yes, you can get away with more on a Suede Boot for sure...

Honestly they are really nice for the $110 I paid for them (seems they are even lower now for the US guys, down to $90). A really solid alternative for the price point. Goodyear welted too so hopefully the uppers hold up well and I can eventually replace the brick sole as it is not my fav.

Here they are comparing the last to the Tankers on Barrie. I feel like it's between Barrie and Trubalance shape wise. I went .5 up from my Barrie size as suggested by the other person here who bought them here and they fit perfect.

Couldn't help but notice your post here.  I am a BIG balmoral guy.  I REALLY enjoy them due to their dressy nature and my vocation requires me to wear them as well.

I own the 9015 as well and it is spendid....I recommend it highly.

9741 - Black shell (short)-wingtip balmoral (Tremont))

9071 - Black Shell cap toe bal  (Hampton)

9016 - Black Shell perforated cap toe bal (Hampton)

Alden on Madison's semibrogue Black Shell on Hampton (similar to AE's strand design - medallion cap toe bal)

I could be talked into color 8, or black calf, I suppose.  Or maybe I should just stick to bluchers and pick up something new and interesting.

Thanks in advance...

@sevenfoldtieguy

Repp, I would go for the 9016 if I were you. These make a great addition to any Alden closet and are slightly more universal that the 9071 (which is also stunning as @watchman1) just demonstrated.

9016 - Black Shell perforated cap toe bal (Hampton)

I would only wear it with suits or (at least) slacks. Definitely not jeans.
