Picked up the Natural CXL Indy's on Commando from Leffot today. My first Indy's as well as my first CXL shoe from Alden. Really looking forward to beating these down.

really nice boots friend.
careful, next thing you know, you'll be that guy that only wears boots.

thank you for the kind words gentlemen.
walras, im sure some could wear these with a suit, but i would struggle with it. maybe because i only go formal a handful of times a year, i look for sleeker footwear when i wear a suit.

Thanks guys! Yes, I pre-ordered these. Due to my narrow width, I have to pre-order all of my shoes.

@intensanity, congrats on your new Leffot Indy Boots, they look terrific.

Does Alden continue to make the J Crew exclusives or were those shoe a limited run? Will we see more come in stock?

I'm very new to this so it's all a little bit overwhelming, I can't seem to find a cap toe in a size 8 in cordovan, are they all sold out?

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello! The J. Crew and The Shoe Mart captoes are exactly the same. The J. Crew ones sell out quickly. It took me quite a while to find mine in 8D. Both of these differ from most basic "captoes" from Alden due to the perforations (holes) on the edge of the captoes. I prefer this detail, some do not. If you are indifferent; however, you could get the Alden 4060 which is on the sleeker Grant last, sans perforations. That boot is also very popular.

Leffot occasionally has their "naval boot" makeup which is almost identical to it's J. Crew/The Shoe Mart counterpart, for the exception of a few key details.

1. It has an "antique" edge dressing. Meaning the edges of the leather sole (that you see) are a light golden tan. Most consider this a more casual feature.
2. All eyelets. So no speed hooks.
3. No accent stitching.

So there's that.

I recommend the perforated cap toe on barrie, but many here love the grant-lasted 4060.  Both are restocked pretty regularly as See ya Steve said.  I am actually very tempted by Leffots black alpine grain boot on grant (same design as the 4060 on commando).  I really want a pebble grain leather boot.  @MrDV
, I wish that grain wingtip boot in darker brown was still available!

Great minds,

^^^Be reminded of what is possibly the greatest distinction of them all and that is the J Crew model has a 270 degree welt.

That is perhaps the most profound thing about that version IMHO. nod[1].gif

They both do. Yeah, J. Crew just ripped off TSM's makeup. What more could we expect?

Hey guys, how does alden suede wear over time? I know we all love cordovan because of the patina, but does suede age as gracefully?

On the fence about returning the Brooks brothers snuff suede boots.

While it looks nice pristine, I wasn't sure how it would age.

Alden suede looks better with wear IMO. Even tan suede I have owned has improved. Looks more lived in.

I wonder if I could convince a local J Crew retailer to order their captoe boot in 9.5E for me... That may be the perfect color 8 captoe boot for my tastes

I think patina is overrated.....I had some old suede shoes that looked brand new after five years because I took care of them....I have those boots too and I love them and this is from someone who hates the crepe look...but man is it comfy. I Nano sprayed mine and plan to get years and years of use from them. The color can be worn with nearly all my corduroy pants.

I plan on returning mine, not because I'm not a fan, love them. But want to go after some shell and need quickly move some assets. However, next corporate sale I will rebuy. Rolling the dice a bit, but they still show a full range of sizes. Plus it doesn't seem like a very unique makeup. Just a solid boot.

I'm in boots Friday-Sunday from November or December through March/April. Sometimes during the week as well. Come May or so the boots generally get boxed up and replaced with cordovan bluchers. Come summer the cordovan bluchers tend to give way to suede. Fall, it's all about cordovan bluchers again until winter. Seasons dictate the wear for me at least.

that makes sense...suede boots were low on my priority list and I just waited to get great deals on what I have, which now includes an AE Chukka, Indy light tan suede and this BB boot.  The LS Suede tanker is probably the only suede boot I would pay full retail for.

Exactly. I'll lose maybe $30 worth of savings by rebuying during a corporate sale. But even then, still a great deal.
