The real answer is the factory knows exactly who they're making a shoe for when they see size 10.5B! They make sure the color is on point for Mike! Haha

In all seriousness, I think it's intriguing how different a shade of the same shell from Horween can be in just a few weeks time.

If you were going to get a pair of boots for use in foul weather.....would you choose "smooth tobacco chamois", kudu or natural CXL?

I was in SF last weekend and stopped by the Alden shop.....both of these caught my eye.....never thought I would like a brown plain toe boot.

Does anyone know if shoe trees stretch shell shoes?

I bought Alden trees from a local store that insisted I get L instead of M for 9.5D. They seem to fit fine, but I vaguely remember reading that shoe trees can stretch out shell cordovan over time?

There's probably nothing wrong with sizing down with trees if you think your current size is too tight

My Ravello LWB from AOC arrived today. I'm very pleased with tis shade of Ravello, and the quality of this pair too. Adam did a great job! I took some photos next to other Ravello I have,m and across from Ravello is 3 different pairs of Whiskey I have. I'm no mdubs or Uncle on photos, and the lighting is not perfect but here you go!

See Ya,
Steve

great shoes uncle mac. one of my favorite shoes of yours.

Quick, crappy iPhone, comparison of the recent shell runs in LWB format. #8 from Alden DC ~8 months ago, Cigar and Ravello from AoC this month, Whiskey from TSM this month. All under artificial lighting.

They would have to very tight to even be at risk of causing stretching. Alden trees in L are better than M for 9.5, IMO.

Both boots are lovely but I prefer the first one! Do you know what the retail on these were in the shop please if you don't mind me asking?

those unlined natural cxl chukkas for leffot would be right up my alley if the barrie last worked for me. they also posted two unlined lhs's on instagram in brown cxl and navy cxl.

i've seen those navy indy boots pop up a couple of times here. saw them in person at j. gilbert a couple of weeks back and i was really surprised at how nice they look.

I think kudu would hold up the best with the smooth tobacco chamois a close second. Of the two, I would prefer the chamois just because it looks slightly more refined than the kudu and might be a bit more versatile.

I believe the Alden shell cordovan pamphlet specifically advises against using trees that are too large. However, I also know that some experts here (such as SFTG) size up on their trees.
