Mine are from Shoemart. I didn't care for the J Crew version much.

I actually think the NRO and Shoemart Indy are identical (chromexcel), and the Shoemart upcharge is probably intended to exploit guys like me who don't want to wait months for their shoes..

The uppers on my Indy boots completely separated from the welt after a few wears in November (pictured in a previous thread). Alden 'fixed' them by pulling the ripped leather and resoling (after a lengthy delay for recrafting). Of course, now my boots are visually off-balance and are too tight across the vamp (which is why I like the roomy Trubalance last in E, in the first place). Anyway, given the lousy service I'm receiving from Alden, it's hard to imagine buying another pair unless they get their QC under control. Not to mention, I paid first-quality retail for a second-quality pair of boots. Seems like Alden is following the pattern set by previous high-quality American shoe makers. On a side note, my retailer, Sherman Brothers, has been outstanding and very responsive. Good guys over there.

If you're unhappy (and I don't blame you) I'd have sent them back to Alden and asked them to be replaced. I mean, a few months wear is one thing, but a few wears in total is another. I am surprised, but you might want to let Alden know you are unhappy with the results..

Have you checked the Alden store in NY? They will ship.

Yes, I am on their list. I called 2 weeks ago and they have my size on backorder and I believe I am 2nd and 3rd on the list so it looks like I might have to wait a little longer.

I'd like to see a pic of the top of the J.Crew Indy boot. I want to see how the stitching on the toe box compares to the Chrome Excel from The Shoe Mart.

thats nuts, man. the exact same thing happened to a pair of Indy's i purchased in Nov. I sent them back to where they were purchased and they "repaired" it by setting a new welt stitch through the footbed. (this was discussed earlier in this thread)
I spoke to a rep at Alden about this, asking if they thought it was a reasonable repair, and was told "well, if X thought that was a good repair we stand behind his decision"
i contacted X and asked for a refund which i received, but its a sad state of affairs when a manufacturer would rather appease a retail outlet than help its customers.
then again, they make how many hundreds of thousands of $ of that distributor vs me and my lowly few hundred dollars.
