Walking sticks and canes

Are nice walking sticks/canes ever appropriate in our modern society as fashion accessories for those who aren't retirement age and fully functioning, or are we restricted to our nice umbrellas.

As much as I love my Briggs, i still lust for a vintage walking stick sometimes, and I actually want to be able to use it sometimes.

I think this is even worse than the thread about non-functional eyeglasses.

Fuck the walking stick. You need one of those short rods that you swing by your side like a baton (which may or may not be called a 'baton').

Unless you need it for a medical reason, it's the ultimate of "costumey."

Do we need to issue a "troll alert?"

Maybe you are genuine, I don't know.

David Bowie did it in the mid 70's; if it's alright by him, it's alright by me.

Honestly though I'd figure you'd look like one of the clockwork orange kids or a douche. Both highly inappropriate unless it's halloween.

I don't see the problem with carrying a cane, it's a good an accessory as any other; I hope to get one myself one day. You might as well say that wearing a hat or a boutonnière is 'costumey'.

I just used my uncle's cane as part of my Halloween costume as I was kind of a gangster and my girlfriend was a flapper. I think it's a cool look and they are fun to use but like someone else said, a bit too costumey for regular use. Bowie pulled it off but then again, none of us are Bowie, are we?

House, M.D. is making canes cool again.

Swagger stick?

This dude's cane looks both ridiculous and kinda awesome, which might be the best you could hope for:

Not sure I'd be so enamored if I were to see him in real life. Of course, if he really needed it, more power to him, and props for picking that cane.

For cloudy days, a full-length umbrella makes a fine substitute.

The turnback cuffs might be the touch that is needed to make the cane work.

House, M.D., can't walk without one.

The hat and boutonniere frequently ARE constumey.

I find it extremely difficult to pull this look off, if you want to stay on the serious side. LabelKing and Holdfast are the only members who could use one without becoming a caricature of themselves. Just get a Brigg umbrella with a silver cane instead, like LabelKing has, and you can use it almost every time it is a bit cloudy without looking a ridiculous.
