Booze with antibiotics

What is the problem?
I'm on antibiotics and really craving a drink...

For the record, I drank twice with no noticeble ill-effects (I took amoxicillin - my strep is gone and I never had a bad reaction).

How long should one wait between the last tablet and the first drink?

I've managed to stay off the drink and have only one tablet left to take.

Get on it ... just don't try and operate any heavy machinery

Read the package insert or look it up online and read the drug interactions section.

go for it..no worries as long as it specifically doesn't say on the label...done it many times.

As far as I learned it simply increases the clearance of the antibiotic from your system (depending on where it is cleared) thereby making it less effective. This is the same reason why women are told to use a backup form of contraception if they are given antibiotics while on the pill.
