Applejack

I want to give this stuff a try as I've been looking for a "apple" sort of winter drink for flasking/whiskey mixing. Any reccomendations on common, solid brands?

I wouldn't recommend it. I found it a very mediocre drink. It's not vile, but there are other spirits I would much prefer to spend my money on. Admittedly, I drank it neat. Perhaps as a mixer it would be better.

It makes a suitable and inexpensive substitute for brandy or cognac in many drinks; inexpensive, at least, next to a good cognac. You lose the grape and the subtlety, you gain some apple. Obviously you wouldn't use this when you're trying to look distinguished, or when the quality of the brandy is vital; but it makes a tasty sidecar, for instance.

I've used Laird's. $20 to $30 a bottle.
