The ultimate polo

I was browsing through Palm Beach Illustrated yesterday while in my dentist's waiting room and I notice that they had an article about Ralph Lauren and they mentioned a new Polo shirt called the Ultimate Polo, it uses much finer material (a la Purple Label) and is cut in a Custom-Fit size (slimmer sizes are an important factor in my decision when purchasing shirts). It supposedly retails for $145. Has anyone heard about this? Thanks, Jon

I wouldn't mind owning one of these...have you called the RL store in NYC or Chicago to find out more details? If so, please pass them along to me, if you wouldn't mind.

i vaguely recall reading about this i believe this is the same service that also includes the purchaser being able to pick out the colour of thread for the little polo player man logo (if you're buying a salmon coloured shirt and want a peach coloured polo logo, you've now got a way to get it .....)

You can do this now, with the regular shirts. It's actually a pretty cool interface - www.polo.com

Apparently this is it (and was put on their web site yesterday): http://www.polo.com/cgi-bin....d=62841 I guess it makes sense (that it would be RLPL). Jon

Anyone have any input on just how much better the quality of the fabric is on the custom RL Polo shirts?  Not sure that I am willing to pay $145 for a RL shirt that most people can't differ from one bought at an outlet for $20. I really like a polo shirt made by Ascot & Chang for less money. http://www.ascotchang.com/en/main.jsp The fabric quality is great of the A&C.  (They have several styles/colors)  Off the rack A&C is under $100. Might be able to get it for less as I understand they now have an outlet store in Central Valley, NY.  (Anybody been there?  If so is the store worth a visit?) They replace the collar on their polo with a dress shirt collar which gives it a different look and I think more suitable for business settings.  I admit to being stuck without luggage and wearing one of the shirts with a tie - the collar was stiff enough and the jacket covered...  Actually some people do this in the South of France in the summer - they just have the polo style neck, a placket down three buttons. I have ordered custom A&C polos and I think they were around the price for polo - $135 if I recall - it has been a while.  A&C lets you put whatever you want on the polo shirt where RL insists on the Polo pony. (I hate advertising for free) I'm not a big monogram fan but I would rather wear this than advertise for RL.

If you mean the Woodbury Commons outlet, they seem to have a wide selection but for the life of me I can't remember if they had any polo shirts, nor can I remember their prices. (Not much help, I know )

By custom do you mean they made you a polo to your measurements? I had no idea that this was an option.

Yes MTM polo shirts are available at A&C. They are also doing a catalog version which is a modified MTM version that I am guessing is cheaper. (I haven't tried) I like the polo style for Fridays at work. I have also gotten long sleeve versions of polo that are much more like a rugby shirt that are great for travel. As you are allowed to pick the fabric you can do this... What was at the outlet in NY? And how were the prices? I am going to be close in a few weeks and I wondered if it was worth it. A&C does great stuff.

Stopped by at the AC store in NYC and it seems they don't make MTM polos at all. That was a bummer, as I was really looking forward to getting some.

The Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, NY has an AC outlet store. You could call ahead and find prices.

Sorry I stand corrected.  I will pull my sales receipt and see if I just bought standard polos.  Also bought from the Hong Kong location which I will be going to in a few weeks and I will check with them.  I find that store to be more accomodating.  Again sorry to get your hopes up.

No worries. I picked up one of their RTW polos. Should fit well after a couple of washes. It's quite possible they do things differently in their HK store.
