I've found its more about temperature than time, in general. Anywhere from 45 minutes to 1:15 should be fine. Too, agitation will sometimes help the fibers to tighten up even more. I'd suggest the hottest wash setting on your machine-wash possible, on super gentle/delicate. Then they're sitting in a sauna with the top closed, getting shaken up every couple of seconds. It's brought out the most shrinkage in old 501 STF that I've experimented with.

The above answer works too. Get them soaked in a really hot bucket or something, and throw them in the dryer on high - although they will soften up and you'll usually lose that "raw denim" feel and texture.

Either way, depending on what you want.

those look fantastic. IMO much better than their skinny cuts.

As I'd said earlier - a great change up from super-slim offerings. Can't pack your balls in there every day without a bit of relief every now and again.

Going to BIG later this month and I'm curious as to whether I should get x003 in size 32 or size 33. I'm a 33.5" waist and would like a 12.5" thigh, and the BIG website says the size 32s could end up shrinking to a 32" waist and 12" thigh, but I don't think SF members have found these figures to be accurate (BIG overestimates shrinkage?). I figure I could put them on during my warm soak and prevent them from shrinking too too much? Obviously, additional shrinkage would take place during subsequent washes but I'm presuming the first wash after purchasing them in the raw to state to me most sufficient.

IME, the 32 would work best for you. I never get as much shrinkage as BiG advertises either, plus, PBJ denim is loosely woven and can stretch a lot as you wear the jeans.

Can anybody do a quick PBJ vs. Momo for me? Momo has a really nice pair of indigo/black jeans that i'm looking to buy (indigo grand). looks like PBJ also has something similar. Not sure what the differences are, don't really care too much about the hidden gems, but more specifically fit.

Thanks!

PBJ 007 does not taper from knee to hem, while the Momo does..

random question, but are crotch blow-outs highly frequent with pbjs? i'm on 6 months with my 007s that i sized down on, they're relatively tight and i was expecting a blow out, but theres essentially no wear in that area. i was kind of debating on reinforcing the crotch with the extra denim i have just to be safe, but i'm not too sure its even necessary.

I agree with IIIrd, the PBJ model in question (XX-007) is a straighter cut, while the Momotaro is a little more tapered. The XX-007 is probably a little bit slimmer in thigh than the Momotaro. Also, the PBJ is indigo/indigo, not indigo/black.

I wouldn't say that PBJs get a lot of crotch blowouts, but IME, the stitching there isn't quite as strong as that of other comparably-priced Japanese denim brands. However, it you have almost no wear in your crotch, it's probably not necessary to reinforce, at least not yet.

My 007s got a bit more pronounced wear in the crotch, and one of the seams looked to be grinding away. But it's essentially just worn down to the seam itself, rather than tearing through (kind of difficult to explain, but whatever). The denim wore away but only to another layer of denim in the seam itself.

Yeah - the PBJs are a really straight-leg cut. The comparable Momo's are tapered. PBJs sit lower on the hips, Momo's are a bit higher rise (but only a bit). Both are great options.

Tried on some Pure Blue's the other day ( unwashed ) just wanted to ask here before i kop on how to minimize shrinkage on the jeans during the first wash?

The PBJ's fit me good now and if ever i want it to shrink, its everything but the waist area

Only super sure way would be to wear them in a bathtub for their soaks and washes. Otherwise everything will come in eventually.

if ever i do wear it while soaking, do i do a cold or warm soak ... sure wouldn't want to do a hot one ffffuuuu.gif
post #569 of 1148
Hot will get most of the shrinkage out of the way early so that you're not having to continue to sit in a tub with them on a year later. You could just buy the o/w versions at BiG. Then it's all done for you.

To minimize shrinkage, wash them cold by hand or on the delicate cycle in the machine, and don't use the tumble dryer. Of course, you will have to always wash them cold and avoid the tumble dryer in the future as well.
