I am glad that Stereolab got a mention. Their records are often slept on because the band is so prolific, and their music tends to reveal itself slowly.

Oh I love Britney =)

I think her new songs are so good.
But I think the best album 2008 is:

Back to Black.

Amy is a great person... with problems .. unfortunatelly.!

Heh. I'm an avid Stereolab collector myself, though I find myself most attracted to Mars Audiac Quartet and earlier. I haven't been to a Stereolab show in 15 years (man, they've been around forever), but at that concert some fan-girl actually swooned and fell off the freaking stage. Nutty.

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III

Glasvegas - Glasvegas

I really hope their album gets a wider stateside release and tour in support of it. It's not everyday you hear a rock/pop band with a rockabilly influenced frontman that actually sings in his native scottish brogue (other than The Proclaimers).

i haven't seen stereolab since that margerine eclipse tour (i think?) but they are easily the band i have seen the most. while the first album i think of when i think of stereolab is transient random noise bursts with announcements, their earlier albums have lost some of their shine since i have been exposed to stereolab's influences. i think they finally sound like their own band, rather than, say, a NEU! cover band. and i want to say this last album is the first in which they sound like they have bounced back from their rather tragic personnel change.

Emo = Rites of Spring and Fugazi
--------------------------------------------

Favorite band I've just heard of this year is MGMT. All their singles were released in 2008, however, their album was apparently out in 2007.

Vampire Weekend was released in 08 and I'd also say this band is pretty much awesome.

I'm also a fan of Republic of Loose, some funk rock band from Dublin, Ireland that had an album released this year.

M83 is good too.

I haven't had as much time to explore music this year as most, sooo that's my list.
