I assume there is some formal rush process, and hopefully it isn't too quick. Give it a chance, rush a few houses, and see what you think. I rushed when I was an undergrad, and ended up GDI because I decided it wasn't for me. I did make some friends in the process though and got invited to a lot of parties because of it.

It's informal rush. ive been to some of the stuff that they had in the summer. The guys barely get out of the way to know you. They just give you beer and expect you to go out of your way to meet all they guys (free beer is cool). But shouldnt it be the other way around? They should be coming up to you and meeting you?

Not really. In my experience, with a formal rush process, it was very similar. Occasionally the brothers would go through the dorms and post fliers for their events, but otherwise, it was all self driven. If you went out of your way to make a few good friends in the house, then you might get called up to spend more informal time with them (for example they may invite you to dinner at the house or something). The substantial effort had to come from the individual though.

Look, this is life. I always use the 80/20 rule. If I want a new friend, I expect to do 80% of the work to get one and the other person to do 20%. If I want to get a new job, I expect to do 80% of the effort to get one, and the company to do 20%. If I want ____ then I expect to do 80% of the effort to get it and the other party to do 20%. Just always assume you will have to do the bulk of the work for the things you want that involve other people.

They don't have to... They literally run that campus. They can sit back and the best recruits will automatically come to them. OP: I'll reply to pm later when I have a bit of time.

Yea but when you go to this stuff, they just dont really seem like they even want to talk to you. I mean i have tried to talk them and get know them, and dont get me wrong some of them are cool, but most just dont give a damn about you.

This is so true and most of the time if you do not know the people in it well which i dont, they will already have in mind who gets bids because most went to the same BIG highschool, where as I went to a little one and came to the school knowing barely anyone. Did you go here?

Its probably easier to crack down on little ones. When my brothers frat got in trouble for hazing they got in big trouble, here not so much.

There are about 37,000 students (about 30,000 of these being undergrads) at California State University Long Beach. Greeks make up a very small percentage of student body, probably not much more than 6%, if that. You still haven't clarified whether the $3,500 dues are purely membership dues or if they include residence at the fraternity house, with or without meals. I thought the dues were standardized by and paid to the National, but I could be mistaken about that. As purely membership dues, the $3,500 figures seems outrageous; if it includes room, then its probably not too out of line; if it includes room and board, then it strikes me as a pretty good deal.

I pledged for the one year I was at a traditional college. I made it thru pledge but decided not to actually join bc a lot of the Sig Ep guys at my school were douchebags. I hung out with the Alpha Tau Omega guys instead, they were on my soccer team.
