Shiraz

Wishing Tree is my favorite and can be had for about $10-13. Althought admitedly, I've never tried a wider range of expensive Shiraz. But I also don't feel the need to.

Bordeaux, Burgundy, German riesling, Rhone, Champagne, Barolo/Barabaresco/Brunello/Super Tuscans, and the odd bottle of ausiie wine (very little these days.

Lucky7, if you love bold cabs then look for Aussies like Greenock Creek (18% alcohol!), Noon Reserve (16%), Wild Duck Creek, Ares, etc...

Love them! I drink a lot of old vine Aussies. Good call on the Super Tuscans, I enjoy them frequently!

Wow, that's a hard question to answer. I drink a lot of Cali Cabs and Italian. One of my favorites has to be Beringer Private Reserve.

Beringer Private Reserve is nice, but I just have a difficult time buying from them knowing that they also mass produce much of their wines. I like to stick with wineries that specialize in better end product. But I will admit the Private Reserve is tasty!

I wont disagree with that statement. But I was lucky in PA and 1995-1999 were on sale for $75 a bottle. I bought a ton of the 97's.

I like Zinfandel a lot. When doing steaks on the grill I choose Malbec from Argentina. Argentinian wine and red meat to me go together so nicely. And since my sister-in-law is from South Africa, Pinotage makes more than its share of appearances.

I think all of the South African reds are outstanding. All of them are big wines with a, don't puke, roofing tar characteristic. These wines even the pinot noirs are all worthy of grilled red meat.

Some excellent red wines over the last two months:

Freemark Abbey 2002 Merlot (Napa)
Franciscan 2003 Merlot (Napa)
Grgich Hills 2002 Merlot (Napa)
Tawse Winery 2005 Pinot Noir (Niagara)

All around $40.00

The steal at $20.00:

Penfold's Thomas Hyland Shiraz 2005 (Adelaide)

Just a fantastic wine for the price. Great balance. A true three movement symphony. Definitely not your basic, Australian fruit bomb.
