What is with these weird spammy posts?

There are a few more today. One of them is titled "Ward Colorado Elevation", and it consists of just a long list of links. There have been several others in the last few weeks.

Someone is apparently going through the trouble of creating a user account, registering, etc., just to post a few of these before they get shut down. Why? Is it some link popularity service? A phishing scam? It seems like a lot of effort and little reward for a regular old troll. But it also appears mostly harmless, just annoying, and a pain for the moderator to police.

So WTF? Any ideas? I'm curious, but trying to understand the motives of every sociopath and their moronic internet scams, trolls, and general horseshit is beyond me.

Puzzled,

David

Numbers game. 1 out of 10,000 users will click on that link. 1 out of 10,000 of those users will buy something or put in their personal information.

multiply by every forum on every subject on the net.

Though I hate the feature, SF should add the write-the-word-shown-in-a-picture-in-the-box-below thing to prevent further spam bot attacks.
