The Food Network Ramblings - Page 3

I think I have given up on The Food Network with exception of Iron Chef America. My attention is primarily drawn to PBS and America's Test Kitchen and Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie. Food Trip with Todd English sometimes has some interesting segments, but overall he is a pretty creepy guy so I watch with one finger on the remote at all times.

I'm going to throw my two cents' worth in here too, just for the novelty of NOT having my wife tell me to shut up.

I f-ing hate Ina Garten/The Barefoot Contessa. I have watching her make food for her rich Hamptons friends. I hate watching the guy pick out flowers and all the other sidelines. I hate everything about the show.

I moderately hate Giada. I hate how when it comes to Italian words she suddenly gets this serious Italian accent. Any other word, say in French or something, is spoken as a true American. And I hate how little she actually eats on the show. Giada looks like she'd explode if she took more than a mouthful of anything. I think if you asked her to cook anything not Italian, she'd be at a loss.

And Rachael, oh Rachael. I would punch her in the face given the chance. I hate to admit that I love some of her recipes. But her EVOO, GB, and other shmarmy shit just drives me up a wall. it doesn't help that I find her unattractive in every way. Physically and personally. And I heard that on her old show $40 whatever the hell, where she travelled around and spent only $40, she always stiffed the waitstaff in order to save money. Nice.

But I love
Nigella Lawson
Jamie Oliver
America's Test Kitchen
Alton Brown's Good Eats.

I like Nigella's recipes and her healthy attitude towards food (she's got curves and isn't ashamed to eat on the show), I like Jamie's utter enthusiam and his recipes, and I like how much I learn on the other two. That said, I wish Jamie would move back to the city.

I sort of like Tyler Florence.

I'm also a fan of Anthony Bourdain, though I know nothing of his cooking. I just love his show No Reservations. My friend Matt was on it once (in Seattle).

And, finally, let's not forget Ace of Cakes.

Thank you all for letting me rant.

Well, duh, she specializes in Italian cooking (or semi-Italian cooking, if her usage of wonton stickers to make ravioli is any indication of her deviation from tradition).

In Canada we have Food TV with many of the same shows. I am smitten with Laura Calder (French Food at Home) and her rather plush apendages

Sandra Lee is always entertaining. What food horror will she come up with next? One never knows!

Do not ever watch her show hung-over. You'll want to vomit.

For some reason her Kwanzaa Cake recipe isn't on the Food Network's site anymore. Damn shame. It's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen made on TV. Apple pie filling slopped inside of a store-bought (and later frosted) angelfood cake with Corn Nuts sprinkled around it. Was she stoned, or just that much of an idiot?

Do a little bit o' searching over there and you'll find the Kwanzaa cake abomination via a review. I also think the ep with that segment will be re-aired sometime near Christmas.
