Cool furniture, design objects and desiderata - Page 478

Why does it look like the dovetails are so tiny on one side--wouldn't that be weaker than more evenly sized lobes?

Or are they not cut the same size all of the way through (more of a 3-d shape, and we are just seeing the narrow end)?

Talking about the case or the drawers?

It's typical to make the tails larger than the pins, for aesthetic purpose mainly. The joint, even with choice made, will far exceed it's basic strength requirements.

SG do you have a formal blog or Tumblr for this stuff? If not, you should. The work's so good that it should be shared beyond SF.

I guess I was thinking more about the case--drawer fronts shouldn't exactly have a lot of load on them either way.

But I figured you know your shit, so either A) It is strong enough as is, or B) I am missing something.

Hah! Thats a good one.

Took a year start to finish, many hours. At some point I stopped counting hours, lol. There were a few months I didnt work on it as I had some other stuff going on.

I've been kicking around the idea of a blog, but no tumbler at the moment.

Can anyone suggest an L or U shaped couch for a family/sitting area? Prefer low profilel/non-bulky, but still comfortable. Cloth (not leather)... utilitarian (we have kids). Thanks in advance.

Budget: under $5k preferably...

We have a custom length sofa from Joybird that we're very pleased with so far. Many fabric options that would be suitable to kids/creatures. They somewhat frequently run sales for 20% off that would put you right in budget for pretty much any style they offer, plus you can customize sizing to a great extent should you desire (for a price). Also, taxes and delivery are included in the price, which is cool.

Nice to hear good things about Joybird...I've been considering something from them.
Also been looking into a company called Bryght...price is right but there are few reviews out there. Unfortunately, I don't really care for any of their sectional designs...but maybe Mr Moo might think differently.

A few options for sectionals at Room and Board should fit your criteria.

I bet she's thrilled. I still want to know what she's going to put in this thing. I can only assume this cabinet is going to be locked in a bank vault.

SG, could you discuss your choice of hinges?

To update: I have ordered the free fabric swatches from their website. Service so far has been great. I received a personal e-mail from a person (not an automated message) and with that a 20% off coupon - nice. I brought this option up to my wife and her immediate response was "how do we know it's going to be comfortable?" I didn't have a good answer... shog[1].gif
