i don't have a planking table yet.

i do, however, have access to a lot of cool materials (wood, old wood, stones, etc) that could be used.

In college we used doors for beer pong then returned them to their hinges. These legs would have helped a ton but other than that I have not thought of using a door as a table.

$190 for a set of four? I'll pass.

You could spend less and order a set of hairpin legs from these guys and get something that looks a lot nicer with a little elbow grease.

It's a cute idea, but it doesn't look remotely stable.

My sister did that in her old apartment when she was having big dinner parties, worked really well though she used some proper trestles.

oh, btw, my immediate next task, along with sourcing a large herez, is replacing the hideous birch legs on these chairs with something metal. And a little lower; the chair reads too big that high off the floor IMO.

Doesn't ikea still sell some metal legs for the karlstad stuff? (not the full metal base like the couch you pictured, just 4 separate legs) Makes it look 10x better.

Otherwise, this etsy shop will sell you all sorts of different legs for it:

Thanks OTC, I am aware of that leg. I don't like it, unfortunately. Even still, I would have bought them last night but they only had one set in stock and I had two chairs, so I wanted to wait and see what the originals would look like before making a change. Now that I am convinced I need a leg that's two inches shorter, I am into fabbing my own territory anyways.

I am also aware of several etsy and similar Ikea hack sites (prettypegs.com) and may go through them, though I may just have some aluminum rod machined to my needs. I run a manufacturing facility :)

I actually think this leg (Besta) will fit; it is the right height and as long as it takes the same M8 lag bolt I may be in business off-the-shelf.

So, an update. I put the Besta legs (intended for a dresser) on the Karlstad chairs. This also lowered the chair by about 2-1/2 inches. They fit very easily, attached with the same M8 screw design as the original legs. No modifications necessary. A dramatic improvement IMO.

I really like that chair! How long has everyone's interior decorating taken everyone? Seems ours will be a longer drawn out process than making a ton of up front purchases.

Years, pretty much for as long as you own the house.

Douglas, looks much better!

Thanks, SG.

And jbarwick, SG is also right about decorating taking forever. In my house it's as much a protracted negotiation as it is anything else, and it will go on for a long time. Tastes change, means change.

It has always struck me as cruel that just when you've gained a new space to decorate is when you've presumably also just spent so much money that you don't have the funds to pour into the interior that you might like. On the other hand, it could be a good thing, as living within a space without all the stuff you might initially want gives you the perspective to really make sure it's a well-considered decision.

almost invariably, the interiors i like the best in person (as opposed to in a design mag) are the ones that have been slowly accumulated over the years. it's more interesting to me to see an evolution of personal taste and of personal history than to see some place that looks like a showroom for a few knockout pieces that may well change in a few years.

Good points are being made with the length of decorating. My current big push is to not buy interior blinds. The more houses I look at the more I like curtains.

Was looking at an old Herman Miller Fiberglass Shell Chair and was wondering if the leg bolts coming through the top was normal for these older models (1957). I tried doing some research but couldn't find too much. Although no other models I saw had the bolts exposed. Also if anyone could estimate what a good price for this would be I would appreciate it?

Description from listing:
1957 Herman Miller Rocker
Molded fiberglass, cat's cradle legs, wooden runners
Made August 5, 1957 Zeeland, MI
great condition
bears original makers mark (double triangle)
