I own an M6 ....and love it so much I will probably eventually get an M8.

Also, look at this:

It is Leica's first true DSLR system ....and their first Auto-focus SLR.

The M6 was my first Leica and is a truly excellent camera and a good value for anybody getting into film photography with Leica optics. Mine just came back last weekend from an overhaul. My MP is much easier to focus, so I'd like to get the viewfinder upgrade for my M6.

Many M8 owners complain about its performance, and apparently only some of the issues have been fixed with the M8.2. The deal-killer for me is the crop factor. A full-frame M9 is probably still a few years away.

The S2 looks amazing and the reports from people who have used it are so far very favorable. The format is being called middle-format, larger than 35mm but smaller than medium-format. The full-frame R10 will be based on the S2 and is anticipated to be smaller than the current R9.

As in, do you guys file them away in an album, frame them on the wall, upload unto facebook...look to publish them? Is there generally something you do to your photos after you've selected and developed the ones you like? I guess I'm asking a stupid question.

I get my film developed and scanned to CD ROM, then do post-processing in Picasa and Photoshop. Mostly, I display my photos online. If I want prints of a particular photo, I can either get them printed digitally or get custom wet prints done from the negatives by a specialist.

I just have stacks of prints (Epson R2400 mostly, some from Mpix, all my real darkroom prints are boxed or framed) lying around, strips and sheets of 6x6 negs collecting dust, boxes of outdated Fuji 4x5 Quickloads I picked up for a song taking up part of a bookshelf...

Girlfriend and I are getting each other a camera for christmas, in other words a shared purchase. I am thrilled, because I don't have a good camera, and it give me an excuse to spend a lot of money.

I appreciate nuance, but am willing to look downmarket if you don't think Leica makes a good 'starter' camera. I get obsessed with things quickly, and I need something that will satisfy me for a couple years, during which time I might become a camera nerd.

Someone want to recommend me a camera? Open to many price points.

And you're interested in Leica or just a camera in general?

Leicas tend to be pricey. For digital, check out the D-Lux 4 or V-Lux 1.

Camera in general. I tend to like the Leica pics people post though. I mostly need something that will capture antiquing and pick stitching particularly well. Edit: kidding about that last bit. I travel a lot and would like to document some of it. Thx for the advice and sorry for the threadjack. If you prefer to PM that's fine.

Really don't have much advice about cameras in general, especially not digital. Sorry. I think there's a general digital camera thread somewhere.

I use strictly film cameras at this point.
