Brilliant. Because everyone in NY knows how to cut hair.

I don't think I have ever received a good first haircut from anyone new to my head. It always takes a few times of me trying to say what I want and the stylist trying to figure out what I mean.

I find the best thing is to get a haircut every couple of weeks, though my schedule doesn't always allow that. There is always the alternative of using a number 2 or one or whatever the hell it is called, for a crew cut look, then you will be assured of the exact haircut you want every time. Of course, if your job doesn't require you to look like an idiot, this might not be for you.

So, I have no recommendation other than to say that the preferred term is Bostonian. Bostonite is a rock, and the only people that would use that would be visitors. Same people that insist the north end is called northie.

I found a very good traditional cut in Porter Square on Mass Ave, right next to Fresh Pond Ballet.

Otherwise, I make do with a guy in Nonantum or the ground floor of 225 Franklin St downtown.

I prefer not to use Bostonian because it makes me think of ugly shoes.

I've had some luck with Salon Marc Harris on Newbury. http://www.yelp.com/biz/salon-marc-harris-boston

I live in San Francisco but was camped out in Boston for work a few months ago. Was having an awful hair week and asked some of my more stylish male coworkers where to go for a good cut.

Ended up with a great cut where the (rather attractive) skilled female stylist took her time and made sure i was absolutely satisfied with my cut.

As a plus, its reasonably inexpensive (by SF standards) at $45 for a mens cut.

Would definitely recommend to others.
