Ringing in my Ears

Thread Starter
Man, I am going nuts. My ears have been ringing non stop for the past two weeks. I'm trying to avoid all noisy environments, but that is pretty much impossible these days, with construction, noisy restaurants, machinery everywhere, it's crazy.

Does anybody else deal with this issue? How have you learned to cope? This is really stressful...

That sounds like Tinnitus. You should probably see a doctor.

+1 ... I usually have ringing for two or three days after a concert or dance party, but if it persisted for more than a week I'd be straight to the doctor

I have constant ringing. It sounds like a robot trying to tell my something. Just like crickets at night. You get used to it.

Go see a doctor.

I suffer from moderate tinnitus, which is annoying to say the least. However, I actually have better than normal hearing. I was recently tested. Weird, since normally tinnitus is associated with hearing loss.

Definitely get checked out.

Do you take any medications, and if so do you recall if you've made any changes starting about two weeks ago? That's usually the first thing to consider when there's an onset of tinnitus. Aspirin is notorious for causing tinnitus. The low dose aspirin that many of us take is usually tolerated OK, but for many people anything more than that can often trigger intolerable levels of tinnitus. One of the better known naturopathic cures for tinnitus is Ginkgo Biloba. Like many herbal supplements it doesn't work well for everybody (For what it's worth, it has always helped me whenever I've had a problem with tinnitus). For the Ginkgo to have a chance of working, you should at least take what is considered to be a therapeutic doseage, usually 120-180 mg/day. For obvious reasons, it's also important that the Ginkgo you take is of a decent quality. And for that reason I strongly suggest that you do not buy the Ginkgo (or just about any supplement) from your local drug store or supermarket. While it is possible to find a brand or product that is an acceptable quality, the odds are against it. If you have a health food store in your area that is usually going to be your safest bet. If you happen to have a Vitamin Shoppe nearby, I think they do a pretty decent job with their house brand and I've been quite satisfied with their Ginkgo Biloba. Good luck. FYI- I used to own a vitamin manufacturing company (for 5 years) and I know of what I speak. Dennis

when i was in college there was a time when i had a ringing in one of my ears for like 1 month straight. i dont know what caused it but afterwards it just went away by itself.

i would say go see a doctor but he may just tell you to wait it out perhaps and just prescribe you something for temporary relief during that time being.

Ive had tinnitis as long as I can remember and as near as I can tell it's loud and multipitched compared to average.

My wife is an audiologist; what causes tinnitis is unknown and there's no cure per se. Ringing seems to be triggered by damaged nerves (loud noise, infection, disease) or by temporary conditions like ear infections, change in pressure, excess caffeine...

If it's permanent- you eventually won't notice it... until you startthinking about it, like right now...

If there is no hearing loss or other associated problems, there will be no diagnosis or treatment, but you will eventually get used to the tinnitus. If there is hearing loss, you may have Meniere's Disease or another diagnosable and potentially treatable disorder. Get an audiogram sometime.

Sorry for bringing this old topic up :P

I've had tinnitus for three years now and since I started to work for real in an intense environnement (advertising), the tinnitus has been even more present (higher and louder).
It's a physical problem but anxiety doesn't help and change the way you notice the ringing. I don't take any drugs (except for a daily short espresso, that I decided to switch with relaxing herbs tea) that might have changed this.

My question is :

What should I consider for meditation or chill time like yoga? Do some of you with tinnitus do these meditation things and listen to white noise when you sleep?

Beside this, each time I move my jaw, I hear a crack in my ear, fuckin annoying.
And the doctor I saw today told me that only calming myself would help. (I will go to another doctor and cry for a specialist).

Help for someone who wants to shoot himself in the ear lately.

Anxiety and stress will make the tinnitus temporarily worse. There's no effective treatment for it as far as I know. Last I heard they are expecting a cure within 10 years and it's caused by dead cell activity. Caffeine and stimulants will worsen it.

The crack when you move your jaw may be TMJD, which in itself can cause or contribute to tinnitus.
