Almost everyone in black metal is pretentious, going on about how "tr00" and "kvlt" they are whilst they post half-baked internet-assembled diatribes on message boards from the comfort of their parents' basements. That said, some are pretty scary: Some are less scary:

Couldn't disagree more. Having seen him speak on the political world stage and having met the guy- he's smart, he knows what he is talking about. He truly cares and has the wherewithal to do something about what he believes in.

It's a little like saying Reagan should have only been an actor.

Pretentious: making claim to or creating an appearance of (often undeserved) importance or distinction

OK- Coldplay, qualifies... but a number of the bands mentioned above, I don't get... if you're going to list them as "pretentious", how about some examples?

I don't think everyone posting in this thread has the same understanding of "pretentious". I can certainly understand why people might find Aerosmith annoying (although I happen to like a lot of their music). But pretentious? How so?

Another band I find pretentious is Styx. Not as much as Rush but a close second.
