Same here. I like the original show, and thought Next Gen was pretty good, but I gradually drifted away from the franchise. This movie, however, has definitely renewed my interest.

Agreed. It looks like they've FINALLY tried to breathe new life into it, instead of simply creating a new scenario for the same old characters. I really liked the TNG series, but the movies were always big letdowns, especially Insurrection and Nemesis (the latter of which COULD have been more interesting, but seemed not to come together).

As for the critiques of the bridge as looking too "modern," keep in mind that the bridges have always been reflections of what looked "technological" for the time period in which the series was made.

It's the 23rd century, so if the bridge in this movie looks like Cold-war era switches and nodes, that would be just corny to the max. I'd MUCH rather they have a cool looking bridge than make it look like something that would have preceded the original series.

I think you need a bumper sticker that says, "Vulcans do it deeper." Edit: in reading my post above (the one after Doc), I just realized that I'm an even bigger dork than I thought. Good lord, that post is dorky to a level I didn't think possible for myself.

LOL. That was some epic dork.

Although, I think realizing it's dorky and not acting like it's normal lessens the dorkiness.

I've only been to one Star Trek movie on opening night, and that was Star Trek VI when I was in middle school (of course, I had to go with my dad because none of my friends would go with me). I learned my lesson then that it's better to go and see a matinee on a weekday, when all the uber-dorks have already seen it 2-3 times.

The people in the audience were so dorky and had social skills so poor I really was amazed that many of them actually could find their way out of the house and out in public. The average age was probably 23 and the average weight was about 315 pounds. No joke; there were actual debates going on in the aisles behind me about how Uhura kept that communicator thingy in her ear and whether or not this would have caused her irritation, pain, or damage to her inner ear. And I don't mean "random musings;" they were getting into arguments about it...

There were also people who kept commenting on the subtitles to the Klingon dialogue, remarking when and where the Translation differed from the original (yes, there were some fluent Klingon speakers in the audience.)

Here's the first pic of the new Enterprise. There's also description out of several scenes.

Those screens look dumb and reek of 'movie computer'. In the future, all displays are blue on blue! I like the uniforms.
