I'd be in for that. It goes without saying that if cigar were available, I'd be down for that as well. My vote is for speed laces. I have an EG Shannon captoe and without the speed laces, they're a serious pain to get on. I completely understand the no special price on a group buy. I certainly wasn't suggesting that, rather that if we got enough people together a special order could be put in. Tom: Assuming we wanted a boot in #8, do you know how long would the lead time be? How about cigar? Now how would we go about getting 12 people interested in buying a Alden-SF special boot? New thread?

My suggestion would be we first start a thread in which we list possible ideas (color/style). People could then announce if they are 'seriously' interested. (Right now it looks like we only have 3-4). We could then have a poll to finalize the design with Tom letting us know if it was realistic. From there I'd assume we'd need to get sizes/deposits. I'm using 'we' but hopefully someone with experience could take the lead on this. . . My vote is for cigar shell, smooth-toe w/ medallion (if possible), speed laces and commando sole.

To be honest, I don't need 12 people. I just need ideas. If there's an idea I like, I'll definitely make it, no problem. It just needs to be approved by Alden.

I know Albert you weren't implying any special pricing. I just needed to throw that out to cover myself. I'm sure there's people on this forum who will go straight to their dealer to ask if they would be willing to do something special on the price for a group buy. In fact, about a year ago on AAAC there was a post about someone's dealer offering the Cigar LHS for 300 something bucks. Totally crazy. There's no way Alden would let that happen. There are eyes everywhere, believe me.

As far as cigar, there's just too little supply right now. I have a bunch of orders open already. If we put together a cigar order, there would be no expected completion date, period.

It would have to be #8 or black. If you guys want to put a thread together, totally cool. A SF boot would be awesome and could potentially cover both fashion and street forums as more and more people seem to be wearing Alden shell with denim. Maybe I can work on a special Style Forum heel pad too. Can't make any promises though, it would be a long shot.

Alden shell with denim is fantastic. Thanks to Tom, I wear my #8 Indy boots with denim all the time. I suspect we might be able to grab a denim heads people from SuFu to be in on the order as well. I recall there being a few people over there that wished there was an "AF60" in #8. I believe that there would be greater interest in a boot in #8. There simply aren't enough boots in #8 on the Plaza last. Outside of the extremely popular plaza wing tips, I don't think I've seen any others. And there really isn't much of a following in black shoes around here anyways. I'll start thinking about how to put a reasonable thread together.

Black monk chukka from A of C: After some amount of e-mail correspondence, Adam finally took a chance and let me try these in 9 (Thanks!). They fit just right. My next pair will have to be in a more "complex" color, like #8 or cigar shell.

Heh, he's a bit finicky about stuff like that. Are those the AF8's or 67's?

AF8s. I love the fat outsole that juts out.

Can anyone provide a quick comparison of the grant, plaza, and aberdeen lasts for me?

The Grant has a more rounded toe area, where the Plaza and Aberdeen have a more defined and formal toe area. Orthopedics wise, I believe they're about the same. Edit: Also for the thread, here are some alpine grain cordovan boots being talked about over at AAAC: http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/f...ad.php?t=76765

Sizing wise, Grant seems to run pretty true to size. (I tried two on and it seemed that one was narrower than usual and the other wider than usual, so I'm splitting the difference.) Plaza supposedly runs slightly long, but I can't tell. Not sure about Aberdeen. The way I describe the Grant last is a slightly pointy rounded toe and the Plaza last is a soft square toe. It seems to be hard to compare the shapes of the lasts in words, so I figure if a picture says a thousand words, I might as well post some pictures. I don't have anything in the Aberdeen last, but I do have boots in the Grant (4060) and Plaza (AF60) lasts. Sorry, they're a bit large, but it seems to be easier to see the difference this way. Grant last: Plaza last: Side by side (Grant on left, Plaza on right): Closeup comparison on toes (Grant on left, Plaza on right):

Great pictures! If I didn't know any better, I would say that the Grant and Plaza lasts look similar in the toe area based on those pics, but on my large feet the differences are more pronounced I think.

Thanks! Yeah, it's a bit hard to tell, but there is definitely a difference. Aside from the general shape, one thing I noticed is that the Grant last seems to be a bit taller in the toe area.

Wow, thank you so much Amlai. I'm trying to figure whether or not to spring right for 4060s or wait to see if LSH is able to make a special order in the plaza last. Those boots look wonderful and it's increased my anticipation to own a pair. I ask about the Aberdeen last because i have the 2161 oxford captoes, which are on that last. An 8.5 E looks and fits perfect on me feet and I was just trying to compare sizing. thank you, thank you I almost want to include the AF60s again in my options, but I really, really love the #8 color. The Alden store in New York had 4060s on display, and they were just wonderful looking. So bright and burgundy about it. That Commando sole is nice.
