Had more than one at a nice bar this weekend. Want to replicate it at home.
Suggestions? Thoughts? Specific liquors/brands I need to buy?

Ooooh, may I ask where you enjoyed it? Here's my post on the Aviation: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...43#post1132243 And here's what is probably the best and most comprehensive article on the cocktail I've yet read. http://drinkdogma.com/the-aviation-cocktail/#more-229 ~ Huntsman

The bar at No.9 Park. I just read that drinkdogma article - I'm unsure whether or not the version I had contained any creme de violette. I'll have to experiment, I think... Thanks for your help!

No. 9? Heard of it. Nice. Was the drink it blue or clear -- that should tell you if it had violette. Depending on the amount, it brings a definite floral quality.

There was a blue tint to it, I believe (though with the dim lighting in these places it's kind of hard to tell, really). Don't remember a very strong floral note, and I've never had violette on its own, so I wouldn't really be able to tell... Hm... Next time I'm around a knowledgeable bartender, I'll get him to make me one of each and I'll see what I prefer (and then I'll tip him handsomely for being a pain in the neck).
