i like the look of typewriters but hate actually typing on them. i'd like to pick up a vintage one someday if i can find it on the cheap.

you could always rig a typewriter to output to a computer.

I read Hunter S Thompson used to type 'the great gatsby' just because he found the sound of typing it beautiful.

I like the sound of hammering away on a manual typewriter. I have one my grandfather gave me, I typed quite a few letters on it. Its pretty relaxing. I don't use mine that often, but every now and again I do.

I got an Olivetti for a friend on eBay recently. It was only about $35, in working order. A google search should turn up quite a bit of info. I was surprised to find that there are still typewriter repair shops in my town.

a vintage typewriter won't make you a better writer. seems affected.

Is it affected or does it just seem affected? The slower pace of typewriter composing may give you time to clarify this thought and therefore may make you a better writer.

Nah, it's just affected.

I agree somewhat, that being said I still really enjoy typing on a typewriter.
