Why Neiman Marcus Won't Take Visa and Mastercard - Page 2

Because US Dollars are "Legal Tender" it is technically illegally for the store (or anyone) not to accept cash as payment for anything offered for sale.

I'd like someone to try that argument with a manager in NM: "If you don't cash for this Kiton Jacket, I'm going to sue." Jon.

(imageWIS @ Feb. 02 2005,08:03) AmEx is really a good card compared to others: Great Customer Service Non-expiring rewards program A multiplicity of upgrades available for just using the card And now you can even revolve balances on the "˜regular card' if you want Jon.
IMO, these benefits are outweighed by the hefty annual fee (even more ridiculous for Platinum cards) and the fact that they are always calling you and sending you junk mail to pitch insurance, investments, and other financial products.
I use an Amex Platinum Optima card which not only looks cool, works at Neiman Marcus, and is rare, but functions exactly like a Visa or Mastercard, including no fee. I also got some great deals at the NM pre-sale: - Three Paul Smith striped shirts (approx. $80 each, originally $210) - One Zegna long sleeve polo collar merino sweater. ($90 down from $230) - One merino/cashmere/silk v-neck NM brand sweater ($45) Love the presale. Montecristo

(johnapril @ Feb. 02 2005,10:19) By the way, anyone know if that karla dude was the dude he said he was?
No, of course he is not who he says he is. Many obvious indications of his fraudulent identity are readily available through the archives of the forum. I believe the discovery and accusation of the dissemination of his identify started in the Cars. thread.Jon.
If my memory serves me correctly, he was a spoiled and obnoxious teenager who claimed to be a family friend of the billionaire in question. Really, why can't people be happy with who they are? Must they pretend to be someone important in order to feel better in front of a lot of strangers?

(johnapril @ Feb. 02 2005,10:19) I just read that locked thread (I'm a poet and didn't know it).  Boy, and I thought the political discussions globetrotter and I have been having were bad.  There was no real point to any of that NM thread. By the way, anyone know if that karla dude was the dude he said he was? I caved in and took out a NM card once over, yes, you guessed it, a pair of shoes.  No cash with me, and I wasn't aware of the two card policy.  I did so with a promise to myself to pay off the balance right away.  I think the interest rate is around 21% on that card.

Have a little decorum.

I beg pardon, how much more decorum do you wish me to use? Perhaps you misunderstand the word. Jon.

I heartily agree, Chairman. BTW, I tried some of the General Tso's sauce marketed in supermarkets under the Iron Chef name. The display case had likenesses of the actual Iron Chefs, with the faces blurred; I now know why.

A lot more, thanks. No, thanks, I do not need you to query my knowledge; I know what it means. Absurdly enough, that is why I said it. EDIT: P.S. Begging is likley to suit your attitiude.

Ah, Kalra by any other name would still rank the same. Interesting you do not pursuit point / counterpoint, rather you just state your opinion tuck tail and run. As well, you do not understand the term "˜I beg pardon'. Jon.

Ha. Just forget it.

And so it begins. Topics most likely to result in a SF flamewar:  politics, religion, economics, watches, and Neiman-Marcus's credit-card policy.

Did you hear the one about the Right Wing Christian politician who tried to buy a watch at Neiman-Marcus with his Visa card?
Yeah, and a Chinese import watch at that.

Date of Kalra banning: August 7, 2004 Date of 'Styleman' registration: August 9, 2004 He had actually been doing pretty well until this thread.
