When the hype is right

Most of the time over-hyped books, movies and music tend to be just that - but there is the occasional exception. What highly hyped thing do you think actually deserves it's status? I'll start Movie: The Godfather Music: The Arcade Fire Book: Catch 22 The arcade fire probably sums this up the best. They got an obscene amount of coverage from places like pitchfork (usually a decent reason to hate a band) but there first album was quite honestly epic. And then they completely beat the hype by releasing a really good sophomore album.

^ Good call on McCarthy. I would count that as well. Unfortunately I don't think the Wire really got enough hype - though it totally would have lived up to it.

Though I never actually finished Catch-22 and started it in...6th grade, I think it earned its status.
