well, his pics are often of very disgusting things, I think edmorel "imposed" the ban. It's a gag, obviously.

Having taught Marco Polo recently and then seeing MikeDT's photos, all I can think of is what could have been for everyone:

And, of course, seeing the words "edmorel" and "gag" in close proximity to each other immediately calls to mind:

Also I'm sometimes posting the Chinese food one sees in China, and not London or New York. happy.gif Those last pics I posted they're all Chinese cuisine, except the bottom donkey one. If there's a buffet of broken cow and/or sheep parts, then that's Mongolian.

had dinner at Candle 79 in NYC. "NYC's organic vegan oasis" according to them. somebody else picked the restaurant, obviously.

started with guacamole with black beans and plantain chips. It was nice, and it's hard to screw up guacamole, though I'm pretty sure I could replicate that dish for 4 people for $15 (which is what they charged).

second was "tempeh vegetable tamale". Gross. So i'm not a picky eater at all (Foof and I once devoured facial organs of all kind on a pig), but I dislike tofu for the most part, and I hate seitan and I hate vegan cheese. what that meant was I had two menu options, one was a chickpea cake, the other was a tempeh tamale. Or so I thought, apparently tempeh is one of the gross meat "alternatives" that I hate. And I love tamales, but this was basically a smaller sized Chipotle rice bowl cutely encased in corn wrapper, no "tamale" form of any kind was present. i didn't eat much of it, I couldn't. A total rip off at $23.

my mother in law actually ordered the chickpea cakes that I considered, and that dish was xcellent. mistake on my part, who would have thought that tamale without the quotes like "tamale" would result in a non-corn dish.

my sweet course, a fruit crisp, was really good. would eat again. a "live peach pie", ordered by two members of the table, was absolutely disgusting.

note: I did sneak in a small baggie of parmesan reggiano cheese, but all of the pasta dishes looked gross so I didn't have to use it. a friend ordered "pasta and wheat balls", and apparently my assumption was correct.

"Organic vegan" what? Sorry, dude.

Guess where we went? To the best Chinese restaurant we've found in New York--Uncle Ted's in SoHo. It was honestly excellent. Duck dumplings, braised pork belly . . . oh man. You know how much I hate downtown, but we will certainly will be returning to eat there. You guys and Manton should come along.
