My drunk food obsession:

I ate at Morimoto in Philly for lunch the other day and was really disappointed by the quality. (Had eaten there once before and thought it was good.) Hard, cold rice and poorly sliced fish. I know it was just lunch, but still. The sushi in gomestar's photos, by contrast, looks quite good.



This might very well belong with its cooked cousin the burger in the "tasty but decidedly not photogenic" category.

Too bad about Morimoto- everything I've had there has been monumentally good but have not been in about two years.

whenever I'm in Philly, I like to eat at Alma de Cuba. Solid food, but their jefe mojitos are awesome.

I went to Alma de Cuba several times even before I moved to Philly and really liked it. It is too deliberately loud in its desperate attempt to be hip, but I guess that's what you get with a Stephen Starr restaurant. The food is genuinely good--or at least it was when I went. Strangely, it's one of those places that I like but just somehow forget to frequent. Maybe I'll go back soon for some ceviche.

Addendum: just took a look at the menu online and remembered why I'm hesitant to go to Starr restaurants--the 5x retail wine markups. (Although a lot of Philly restaurants are like this, ugh.)

i have never looked at their wine list. For me, it's all about ceviche, snacks, and mojitos.
