Made bo ssam yesterday for SuperBowl. I wasn't feeling as quixotic tonight, so I had a bowl of white rice, leftover pork, ginger scallion sauce, kim chi and a fried egg.

Quite satisfying.

I hate real bo ssam with a passion, it's absolutely disgusting to me, taste and texture wise. Chang's 'bo ssam' is really just pulled pork meets ssam (wrapping stuff in greens) - which is good. Real bo ssam - steamed unseasoned pork belly, 'raw' kimchi (before it's been laid down to ferment and it's just cabbage and chili sauce in fermented, pureed squid) and steamed, cold napa cabbage. I like most of the communal Korean ssams, but bo ssam sucks.

I made Chang's version. Nothing was at any point boiled, except for rice.

How did you know?

I received the Jerusalem cookbook for a birthday present and these were the inaugural recipes: panfried cod with harissa (seabass was too pricey for an untested recipe) and a roasted cauliflower salad.

Looks good. How did you like the salad? I loved it. I think I used more pomegranate seeds and parsley than you though.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

It was quite delicious. There were more pomegranate seeds in the salad than appear in the photo, I think they all fell to the bottom of the pile when I plated it. I'm definitely looking forward to cooking more from the book./
