Favorite Hip Hop Producer(s)

As a spinoff of the Best Hip Hop Group thread, I thought I would poll SF for the favorite Hip Hop producer. In my opinion, some of these names don't belong in the poll, but I figured I should add as many as possible given the wide-array of suggestions from the previous thread. Feel free to suggest others, as I realize that I may have omitted some noteworthy producers. So what is your vote and why? I voted for Primo due to the fact that he has been around since 1989, his beats are timeless, he chops the hell out of his samples and no matter the song or the artist, he always finds vocal samples to scratch and place perfectly within the track. Next would be Dilla, Pete Rock and K.West.

are the names supposed to be invisible?

No. I was making the poll.

not that he would be the winner, but you left off Hank Shocklee/Bomb Squad

I would say Dre, Rubin, Premier, and whoever produced Paid in Full (it's disputed)

I voted for my own personal favorite, since that was what the question was. None of this "most influential"/"best" shit. Just straight up who I like. My vote went to Jay Dee (RIP). I can spin Donuts on repeat all day and never tire of it. Amazing beatcrafter.

Can't pick just one!

Come on dude. Seriously, how is El P not on that list? He gets my vote. edit: 2nd would be Dre, 3rd to Large Pro.

Why should he be on the list?

I almost put Large on there, but I cut the list down.

Because he has done some of the best producing in the last decade. Take Cannibal Ox for example, their album was great b/c of El P. He has some great beats on his own albums too. Not to mention Company Flow.

There not quite up there yet but a lot of guys out of the south like Maestro, the Runners or even Don Cannon are pretty fresh. also I'd say el-p puts other backpackers (and he's hardly a backpacker) like hi-tek to shame. Props to scnupe7 though, it's a pretty comprehensive list.

Is there a way to do a poll where people can pick up to 3 out of a list? For me, of the above, if I could pick my top 3, it would be Primo, Pete Rock and RZA. Being able to pick a top 3 might give a more interesting distribution over more producers...

Nice list. Hard choice, I voted RZA. I wanted to pick the beatminerz as they produced my favorite album of all time Enta Da Stage but I think Rza's body of work is a bit better.

Favorite hip hop producer...Dre may no longer be relevant but the trilogy of Niggaz4Life, The Chronic and Doggystyle defined the sound of an entire subgenre...Dilla is great, although I admit i never checked out his whole catalogue as I've always been meaning to...Primo had east coast 90s on lock...respect Kanye in his current phase for evolving and experimenting with something more conceptual outside of the hip hop genre, even though his early 2000s soul sampled stuff was very "then," along with the kid Just Blaze...RZA created a unique and cinematic world through his soundscapes. The empty glitz of The Neptunes is formulaic but very listenable, and of course they made monsters for The Clipse. But I think the most influential music producer of the end of 20th century/turn of millenium is Timbaland, without a doubt.

Timberland? Really? Not sure I disagree, but I can't think of a big Hip Hop record he has been apart of in a while.
