Well, if you don't like bumps and razor burn, then yes.

For me - 2 1/2 passes with the straight, from soaking the soap to applying aftershave: 10 minutes.

Without going into too much detail
wet the brush (some soak it but I just get it good and wet)
dip into the cream
lather on my face, adding water as needed. Don't rinse the brush out - keep the lather on the brush.
let lather sit on face a minute while I strop the razor
make first pass, no do-overs, just chop it down (rather indiscriminately)
rinse face but don't dry
re-lather, this time making it wetter
second pass (sideways) - a little more carefully
leaving the lather remnants on the face, inspect, add water to your face with fingers and mix with lather still on your face, and address trouble spots.
rinse
aftershave.

10 minutes. Less if I'm in a hurry.

IMHO it is a no brainer to switch from Mach-3 to DE safety razor. You get a much better shave, and pay a fraction of the cost for replacement blades. So you're paying less and getting a better product.

It's also not very expensive to get started, I got a Merkur HD from Amazon for about $30.

As far as brushes and creams: I got started with a tweezerman $10 brush. It's not great, but it's a big step up from no brush. For shaving creams I use Proraso, and Taylor of Old Bond Street (avocado). The surprising thing for me in switching from aerosol, was that the quality creams lasted a lot longer than the cans. The aerosol shaving cream can may last a month, but the tube of Proraso lasts 2 1/2 months. You're still paying slightly more, but it's only a few dollars, and the better quality more than justifies the extra dollar or two.

In summation, you can greatly increase the pleasure of your shaving experience for only $50, and you'll make the money back within a year and a half by not paying so much for the mach 3 replacement blades. Make the switch. QED
