badgerhair brush, shave soaps

I use aerosol gels currently. Convince me why I should change, i've heard people like soaps.

I was looking at picking up two MAMA BEAR shave soaps, read a lot of good things about it (and not too expensive either) The tubs are 4oz, any idea how long a tub this size would last? (i shave 2x a week)

Also, i need a shave brush. Have read badger hair is good, but NO IDEA what to look for. Does this item seem decent for the price? i know i should stay away from synthetic fibre brushes

thoughts? opinions? GOGOGO! thx

Crabtree & Evelyn sells a basic brush for $35 that is exceptional for the price. Some brushes are too scritchy, others too floppy, but the C&E is just right.

In addition to Mama Bear I can recommend The Gentleman's Quarter, or Honeybee Sue.

Crabtree & Evelyn brought back its "best badger" brush - $35 for a high quality brush.

YMMV as far as soaps/creams go. Differences in skin/technique account for vastly different results. Good luck!

I use Trumpers soap, shave at least 6 times per week and they last 6 months or more each.

It's cheaper, hows that for an argument in the current climate!

Get a brush on sale from a reputable stockist (search for the usual suspects)

Personally I prefer my Taylors brush to my Trumpers, it didnt lose a single hair when new whereas the Trumpers model had me panicking for a while.

I just got some Mama Bear soaps yesterday-so no idea how long they'll last. I also got this brush and like it alot.

The Crabtree and Evelyn brush with Tabac soap are my daily drivers. Very satisfying.

I use Taylor's of Old Bond Street shaving soap and their badger brush. The soap lasts forever!

I use Caswell-Massey shaving soap and typically get 5 to 6 months from one refill, shaving seven days a week.

I have a Mason-Pearson shaving brush that is very satisfactory. In general, the more "silvertip" badger hairs, the better the brush. I had a cheaper brush before that, but it wasn't as satisfactory. Really good badger hair brushes are expensive, but they last a good many years.

Once I tried a brush and soap, there was no way I would ever go back to aerosols. I only regret that that I discovered this sensual pleasure comparatively late in life.

Surely you've checked the C&E website? The site shows a ton of Edwin Jagger - branded brushes, which is all well and good since EJ made the original C&E brush. Go for the best badger over the pure badger.

Alternatively you might check a few sites for closeout-model EJ brushes. Check badger & blade for a list of quality vendors with good selection.

But the official Crabtree & Evelyn site says to check local stores, and there are a host of stores listed for Canada. Try one. And when the site itself gets them in stock, the header says they now ship to Canada. Just got back from the Canadian Rockies the end of July. Wonderful trip and wonderful people!!
