I'm looking for a universal winter jacket. Something that would look good with both jeans and wool trousers, boots or dark sneakers (and Desert Boots), button up and t-shirt and hoody. Thing does have to be WARM. Does such a jacket exist?

I was going to say a car coat before I saw "hoody" - I hate hoodies w/ suit jackets and same goes for the combo with peacoats or car coats, etc.

so can't help here

I would say the EG bedford, excpet for your requirement that it must go w/ wool trousers...i imagine that would look weird since the winter bedfords are wool themselves.

but other than that, it goes well dressed up or down, IMO. and of course, very warm. I've also worn it w/ a hoody, button ups, jeans, non-denim pants, boots, sneakers...very versatile piece IMO

On a side note, so, wool jackets and wool pants are a no-no?

No, think of classic examples like a wool top coat and a suit?

I think Barbour is your best bet. I'm picking up this trench this weekend:

And these are pretty awesome too.
