I beg to differ. In some countries the money bills have different sizes, and some are so big that I'd have to fold them twice to fit in my wallet. For these bills, a money clip is very useful. That being said, the LV one is too loud. I like Tiffany's. I have a Brooks Brothers one that I use when I travel. --trajan

ok let's face it, both are going to be nice little signs of status and moolah - you just have to decide what kind of status you want to reflet.

i think the tiffany's money clip is much more sophisticated, and since it's tiffany's it has a certain old world feel to it. your personal monogram would just add to the class and would give it a bit of utilitarian feel and purpose.

the LV money clip looks like trashy flash.

i'm trying to think of a better analogy. the tiffany's one is like cary grant, james bond, jude law, the sartorialist. the LV one is like paris hilton, kim kardashian, kid rock and . . . um . . . what else . . . true religion - there ya go

Likewise, the kind you'd WANT to impress or from whom you'd want attention will probably be turned off by something so gaudy.
There is something fundamentally wrong with your reasoning: 1) You presume to know what he wants, I'm guessing you're basing this on what you'd want. 2) He really shouldn't be buying any money clip to impress anyone else but himself. He's the one who's going to shell out the cash for it and keep it tucked away in his pocket 99% of the time where only he'll know it's there from any other manufacturer, it's just a piece of $15 piece of silver folded in half, there's no good reason to pay $115 for it.

Really, the Tiffany one and Louis Vuitton one are just as bad as each other. Either way you're paying a huge premium for the name, the clip itself is nothing that special. Either way you're paying for something you can look at with pride and think to yourself "this makes me special." If you're really convinced you're all about the substance and not about the gimmicky marketing hype, you can buy the same thing as that Tiffany one on amazon.com for a third of the price. But right now it seems to be a contest between a bunch of girls and a bunch of SF'ers blowing hot air up your ass over what they personally like and therefore you should want.

1) I was joking with him; a lot of people on the thread said, "Hey, if it gets you laid." I was just making a joke that if that is his purpose, he could do it more cheaply. 2) You've basically just said my point. Read my earlier post on this thread too; I was never advocating buying the LV item (which was $240). I have no idea what $115 you are referring to... is that the Tiffany one? In any case, I think you are completely misreading my post...

I like the style of the Tiffany clip better, but I worry about the longetivity of any money clip fashioned so simply, from being bent out of the closed position. If I was going to drop serious cash on a clip, it'd be magnet-based. Not that those last forever either, but good strong magnets should easily outlast bending a thin piece of metal 9 times a day.

It would be awesome without the huge LV on it. Of course women like it, they are often more overtly vain than men.

. . . which is why i prefaced it the way i did.

if it was me i'd be more inclined to run down to my local 'Things Remembered' and get something engraved for $40

Actually, i like when clips are steel. Ive used tiffanys silver clips before and they always eventually become bent out of shape / stretch out when i put too many bills in there (usually a lot of singles as i used to work at a car wash one summer).

the best money clip ive ever had was a simple one from cartier. it had a silver piece on top, but the actual clip was steel, which springs back into shape no matter what.

for the future, im considering trying a one of those magnetic ones as they dont seem to have any of the problems of metal clips.

may seem like a good idea now, but you'll congratulate your self for years to come, knowing you didn't buy this now.
