Best response to "I'm sorry"

What is your best response when someone says "I'm sorry" for an annoying but fairly insignificant slight, e.g., a hair stylist who keeps you waiting 45 minutes for your appointment? "Apology accepted" is too formal. I often use "It's alright," but that seems too flip, and not truthful because it's usually isn't alright. Staying silent doesn't seem appropriate either.

"It's fine" "It's alright" "No problem", or just smile.

Do not say "no you're not."

Try out "hey fuck you buddy!"

"Well, I'm kind of pressed for time but that's allright." Lets them know you are inconvienced but that it's not the end of the world.

"Don't worry about it" or "no problem". Unless you're really inconvenienced and they don't truly appear to care, only an asshole will make them feel worse about it than they already do.

Good response. I'll sometimes use "It's OK this time, but let's not let it happen again". I want to communicate that it's forgiveable, but not if it becomes a habit.

In the hairstylist example given, I value my time and it's one of my pet peeves when others clearly don't.

I wiuld not wait 45 min for an appointment honestly after 15 min i would respectfully say i need to go and actually do soemthing usefull with my time, in other words fuck you buddy.

Hard to give a general answer but in a commercial situation (or at a restaurant for example), I would avoid acting upset and would try and turn this into an opportunity. I smile and jokingly say something like "It's alright - desserts are on the house, right?", smile. For your haircut, you could say "It's alright - this one is half off, right?".

I tend to say things like 'it's ok, I'll have you beaten later' - which gets a laugh n then we all move on with our lives.
