Red Wing Iron Ranger Boots - what's the dilly yo? - Page 40

Careful, it doesn't take much to push me over the edge! "Well, if I'm gonna spend X I might as well spend XX!" AHHHH!!!!

The total for the Iron Rangers would be $330 including free shipping and 5% GST, so I think I'll continue to look at the Aldens. It's more money, but since this is my first big boot purchase ever I know I will kick myself for not buying a wide boot. I didn't like the Indy at first, but I've warmed up to some of them (not a fan of the contrast stitching).

If you're looking for a little dressier look then go with the Indy boot. If you're looking for a bit more casual go with the IR.

BTW Graeme will do a price match so try to look around online. Shoeme.ca has them for $300.

Edit: Also Nordstrom has the Beckman in cigar for $218 CDN if you're interested.

Thanks for the price match tip! I did see those Beckmans on Nordstrom, but I don't like that style as much. Great price, no doubt.

Seeing as I'm not an overly stylish guy to begin with, I am looking for function first. However, I've worn mediocre looking and fitting footwear for years so I do want to check both boxes, so to speak. I was originally looking at Brogue boots, but I don't think I would pull those off very well.

I think you can dress the Indy's up or down, but you can't really dress up the IR.  I was lucky and picked up my 405 Indy's (with canvas liner) for $400.  New old stock in my size, I guess they'd been sitting there for years as an order that a customer didn't want.

I need to drop by the south red wing store and see if they can stretch or somehow fix my creasing problem

Here is a good deal...20% off using the SUN13 promo code. It works!!!

I already have a pair of IR Amber Harness. I was able to score a pair of IR Copper Rough & Tough from amazon.com for $235 yesterday; fulfilled and shipped by Amazon. I had my eye on them all week and the sale must of been a freak thing. I like the Copper because it's a "rough" medium brown leather and not dark like the Amber Harness. We shall see. I made the mistake of not sizing down a half size on my first pair, so the sale was a good excuse to get another pair smile.gif

Nice, the code does work and that's a decent deal for US residents. Unfortunately, no free shipping to Canada.

Is there anyone wearing size 13 or 14 IRs that could provide some rough measurements?

Am hoping you can help me out ... wear an 11 D in the Iron Ranger and am looking to buy the Red Wing Beckman Oxford 9042 but just don't have time to drive over to a Red Wing store so will buy online. Any suggestions regarding sizing. My inclination is to go down to a 10.5 but that is just a guess ...

If the IR fit you well my suggestion would be to go with the same size.

Thanks for that. I will go with the same size and let you know how it goes.

What would a perfect fit in these feel like? I'm not used to rigid boots like this so it's kind of hard for me to tell...

In the Iron Ranger, the 10.5 is way too big, the 10 feels a little big, but the 9.5 feel a little small.  Ideally, you should order both the 10 and the 9.5 and see which one feels best. As I write this, I am wearing the size 10, with Dr. Scholl's Heel Cups and they seem alright. All things considered, I would go with the size 10, and use some kind of insert if they feel too big.

I tried them on in the store today and I felt the same except no half size. I felt the 8 was a bit small and 9 was a bit big, but I'm not sure where. In terms of length, they were a bit longer than my Vans though.

The 8 I tried was mainly tight in the toe area and by that I mean narrow and cramping my toes from the sides. This is strange because I have narrow feet and actually wear narrow-width running shoes. You mentioned 'breaking in' and 'stretching'. Would that include the toe area becoming wider?
