Red Wing Iron Ranger Boots - what's the dilly yo? - Page 32

i'm walking around like Robocop at work in the new 1907's, but around lunch time today i was walking much better.  so 2 days of wear now, i'm hoping about 2 more days they should be at where i want them to be.

 

must resist urge to repurchase 875's.  especially since i have 2 day old 1907's and iron rangers on the way.   jesus my wife would kill me.

Sorry about this...but I have another sizing question.

I bought a pair of 9.5 Iron Rangers and they arrived today.
I was initially pretty set on getting size 9, but after faxing a tracing of my foot to Red Wing Australia, they measured me as a 9.5 and convinced me to try ordering them first.

The boots fit ok - left foot feels pretty comfortable and the arch seemed to be in a good position but my right foot (which is slightly shorter) was less comfy. They certainly don't feel tight in any way - probably a tad loose feeling if anything.
I need to lace them up pretty tight to suit my narrow feet and I'm getting a tiny bit of slippage in the heel when I walk.

I reckon they're possibly a bit too long - I have a bit under an inch (maybe 6/8ths of an inch or two cms) of room at the heel when I push my foot forward to touch the end of the toe box.

I plan on wearing these with thick socks, but also thinner ones (in an Australian summer).

I have pretty narrow feet, so I don't think width is going to be too much of an issue.

Any advice on whether to stay with the 9.5 or go down to a 9 would be much, much appreciated! Unfortunately trying pairs in a store is not an option for me.

Ended up with Size 10's for those who are keeping score. Slapped in a size 45 Pedag Leather slim insoles and that seemed to make up for the additional space and put a big of cushion in there. I'll post again once I know how they have broken in. Thanks to everyone who responded with feedback ! 

just got my black harness 9.5 in.

 

i'm a solid 10 in 1907's, and got 10 in black harness but had to exchange for 9.5.

 

anyways, 9.5 fits perfectly.  just oiled them before wearing (took 2 layers of red wing leather oil before they stopped soaking everything up) and obenauf lp.  can't wait to wear them out, as they look and feel great inside the house.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between 8111's in Amber and Amber Harness?

I purchased a pair of 8111's earlier today at a local Red Wing store and the box has them labeled as Amber. I've been reading about them on and off and it appears that they come in both Amber and Amber Harness. I was wondering of these labels are the same color or there is, indeed, a difference.

If you search for Iron Ranger's on amazon.com, Amber is a separate color choice in the selection options. I can't tell if there's a difference between that and Amber Harness.

Nope, Amber and Amber Harness should be the same thing. They're both under the model 8111. Probably just some categorization differences.
 

My third pair of RW are the IR Hawthorne and I am totally enthusiastic about them!
After I had turned away from RW because it took me more than 2 years to really break in my cherry Beckmans, I found the IR Hawthorne three weeks ago for 30% less and gave them a try! They are now my most favorite ones ( I own 2 pairs of Wolverines 1k, 3 pairs of Yuketen)!
Will post pics in a few months to show the progress..!

I haven't oiled/polished mine yet, Do you recommend that oil and whatever obenauf lp is before wearing them out extensively? Is there any reason I can't just lace and go? Thanks. 

You can just wear them as is as the boots are already oiled out of the factory. Obenauf LP is a leather protector than waterproofs your boots and nourishes the leather. Some prefer oiling it before, others after. Your preference, but no substantial difference.

 

yep, i did it more out of habit.   but they are ready to go out of the box.  some people prefer not to treat them at all, as they go for the beaten up look.  your preference really.

Anyone know of any deals right now that beats the revolve 30% off first purchase offer?

 

 

Also, I wear a 9.5 in Nikes, should I size down to a 9 or an 8.5? I am NOT going to be wearing dress socks, juts regular black cotton socks.

8.5 would be the recommended size, you might even be able to do an 8. Depends on your foot. Try a pair in person if possible.

Curious to see how the same size Iron ranger boot fits compared to a boot in the Alden barrie. Which is wider and which one is longer? How about the fit?

Lascaux, I'm a 10.5 in Nike Structure running shoe. 9.5 in Sperry A/O. Ordered a 9.5 Iron Ranger and found they were just a touch too long (maybe 1cm or so) - size 9 is on the way now.

BUT I have super narrow feet, so width isn't an issue.
