Stuff Styleforvm overrates

Thread Starter
Cordovan as bad weather footwear. So I followed the SF advice and wear my cordovan during bad weather and got water marks all over. It took a year and half and numerous polishes for the water marks to fade. I don't why so many members suggest cordovan as bad weather attire. Those cheap rubber overshoes work much better with rain, sleet, snow and slush.

Marinella ties. To see what the fuss all about, I made a trip to BG to examine them in real life, they're very very nice don't get me wrong but there are number of equally nice makers like H&B which can be had for a fraction of cost 20 minutes downtown subway ride away. May be the bespoke ties are much nicer, but I don't see the point of bespoke ties unless you're 5'4 or under or over 6'4.

So what other stuffs do you think are overrated on Styleforum?

Pocket squares, definitely. Even though I don't think I'll ever wear a jacket without one again. Raw denim.

+1 - they have there place, but they get pimped out here way too often.

Ralph Lauren. A lot of it may be great, purple label especially, but I own quite a bit of the supposedly better Polo stuff as a result of forum encouragement and it is just sort of meh.

Knit ties. Don't like the knot they tie and I particularly hate the 100% cashmere ones.

This is too easy. First, there's way too much attention to fit, and especially the degree to which fit is more important than quality or just sporting a storied label.

Styleforum also overrates photography skills. Natural light, clean your mirror, tripod, BAH HUMBUG. You can't see the details? Use your imagination for crissakes.

Styleforum also overrates buying on discount. You want the item, pay full retail I say.

Finally, Styleforum overrates wit. This is not a comedy forum. Everyone tries way too hard to be funny. People should tell it like is and leave well enough alone.
