Although the wear is very uneven there is still some coverage down there. If that wear is from you then you could probably extend wear time a little longer. If you have purchased those shoes used then I would definitely recommend a resole because your wear pattern will probably differ greatly.

If you do resole, consider adding some taps to those locations which show the most wear to extend life.

Noob here, looking for some help. Not sure if I should ask here, or start a new thread, so I'll lay down the basics. Style I like to stick to is shirt and tie, and sometimes no tie. Not sure if this qualifies as dress or street, so I hope this is the right part of the forum.

I don't really have any fashion, and my current dress outfit is a dress shirt from Target, and black pants from target. With the basic black dress shoe and belt. I'm tired of that crap, and want to fancy up a bit.

I don't dress up alot. Mainly just every Wed, and Sunday (Church). I want to fancy up, and build a nice wardrobe for church, nice dinners, and nights out. I just don't know where to start, what goes with what, etc....

I just went and bought 4 new dress shirts, and dress pants. Need help putting them together, and picking out shoes, belt, more pants, and shirt combos. I did some reading on here, and it says pinstripes are for work, so I'm thinking I already made a mistake since 3 pairs have pinstripe.

Any help or tips is appreciated.

You are in the right part of the forum. Ask very specific questions and people will answer. General question will most likely to be ignored.

People here don't talk much about fashion. They talk about building style for individual. Shopping at Target is fine, as long as everything is perfect fit <- this is not easy at all. General rule: stay away from black. For pants, get some color like charcoal, navy or gray. Get 1-2 pairs of dress shoes (search for balmorals) in brown.

Look at the "What are you wearing today" thread (it's huge, so be patient), save pictures that you like, go over them, you will learn a lot. Also, get a jacket (sportcoat/blazer) and your look will be much much better by miles. For dinner, and night out, your ties are most likely to be the focal point. So find some nice ties in interesting pattern (ie, something rather than solid, stripes).

Pinstripes are perfectly fine for both occasions.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll pick up some more colors and lighter pants, then takes pics and get some much needed help pairing them together. Yea, fitment is one of my main problems. Very athletic build. Small waist seems to ba a curse with today's cloths. I plan on taking my stuff to a tailor to get it fitted for me.

When you say, "stay away from black", Is that for shirts, pants, or both?

I'll look up those shoes, and start looking at ties and coats.

Alteration is one of the most economical way to go.

For all. What I meant is that black is ok, but since there are always better alternatives, why spent money on black. I have never seen people here with black shirt. And people here also hate black suit (since they're mostly for funeral or wedding).

So, I've got an opportunity to buy a Hickey Freeman Ltd. suit for about $325. I know that the Ltd. line is the lower end and only half canvassed, so I'm guessing that the quality is about the same as my Brooks Brothers 1818 suits, right? And the price isn't a bad deal, is it? It's a solid in a color I don't have at the moment and which I could probably use for my collection, but if it's going to be inferior to what I've got now, I'll just wait for another deal to come along.

First, I'd like to brag a little bit. When I started on my quest for style, I had decided that my first pair of dress shoes would be cordovan. Lo and behold, when I walked into a local men's clothing store today, I found a pair of Mezlan cordovan dress shoes in my size on clearance. Price? $45.

So, I have questions about dress shoes. Keep in mind that I've only worn sneakers and Doc Martens my entire life.
Any tips for walking on carpet with dress shoes? I walk at a brisk pace, so the smooth leather soles tend to slip on carpet. I plan on getting toe taps and maybe heel taps; will those help at all?
Can I wear dress shoes with jeans? (for example, with jeans, a button-down, and a sweater)

Also, where can I find a cordovan belt to match? All I can find online are shell cordovan ones...

Can someone point me to some quality grenadine ties with a blade width of around 2.75''?

Thanks.

The natural scuffing of the sole that occurs when the shoes are worn on hard, abrasive surfaces such as the sidewalk and the street should provide sufficient friction to prevent slippage on carpet for all but the most exaggerated walks.

Less formal dress shoes can be worn with jeans. Not knowing what your shoes look like, it is hard to be specific, but the general elements of a shoe contributing to its formality are whether it's a blucher or balmoral, the prominence of the welt and sole, and the type and amount of brogueing on the shoe. See posts #1232 and 1239 in this thread for more discussion on that issue.

Are you referring to cordovan as the color or the material? You generally want to match the color family of the shoes with the belt, but while nice, it is not necessary to match the material of the belt and shoes.

They're slip-ons with tassles, so they aren't bluchers nor balmorals, right? What do you mean by "prominence of the welt and sole"? There is no broguing.
I'll try to get at least a phone camera picture up within the next couple days.

Yes, the color of the material (my shoes are cordovan in just color, not material). The problem is whenever I do a Google search, the only results I get are shell cordovan (material) belts in colors that aren't cordovan (color).
