It's hard to give you a really good answer because both "athletically built" and a "few hundred dollars" are vague terms. Actual measurements and a specific dollar limit would be much better.

That said, I would suggest two things. First, you may try stores that offer suit separates (jackets and trousers in different sizes) that may fit you better. Brooks Brothers does that for some of their suit lines although they are probably out of your price range. Target also does that with their Merona line, an admittedly "cheap" suit, but perhaps not a bad value for the price.

Another option, although it may be at the high end of your price range, is one of the lower cost made-to-measure offerings that will get you a suit made to your particular measurements. Both Steven Aver (http://www.stevenaver.com) and Thick As Thieves (http://www.thickasthievesla.com/) offer such suits at prices starting at $399 and $443, respectively. Both sites are run by forum members who are known for providing a good product at a fair price.

I think that Dah328 has it right when he suggests that you look at suit separates. If athletically built means simply that you are fit (e.g. runner, play squash or tennis, or whatever) and not that you lift weights, the best acceptable choices for you will be in the suit-separates, perhaps from a catalog. Even, don't laugh, Lands End. For bulk manufactured clothing in your price range of interest they do a reasonable job. Get a local tailor to do the fitting.

I recently bought a 3 button charcoal gray pinstriped suit jacket for $23 shipped from JC Penny on clearance sale. To my surprise, it's actually a perfect fit, even the sleeves are fine. However, my regular suit is charcoal gray solid, so I don't really have a matching pair of pants.

I plan on wearing this charcoal gray pinstripe to less formal occasionals, and possibly without a tie sometimes. Is ok to wear this with a charcoal gray solid, black solid, or gray glen plaid dress pants for non-formal situations, without tie? Or does it always need to be worn with a charcoal gray pinstripe pants.

Anyone have a quick history of who made Brooks Brothers shoes? Looking at thrifting an english-made pair but curious who might have made them. Seem old--at least 1980s, likely older.

Anyone know where to find Sanyo raincoats for a good price - under $200. I've seen some in Century 21 in NYC for $150 but they don't carry black only tan. I've been told Sanyo holds a yearly sale in NY - does anyone have info.

There are very few good quality ties available at retail, even on sale, for $25. You pretty much have to go second-hand at that point. There are often some good deals available in the Buying and Selling forum here on ties.

IIRC there have been reports 'round these parts that Edward Green made some under the Peal label for Brooks back in the 80s. YMMV.

Does anyone have experience with Sartoriani suits? I know about the whole "bespoke" controversy, and am interested in knowing how its $1000 "bespoke" suit stacks up against other $1000 suits?
