What are the advantages of a 3 roll 2? I've always just looked at 2 buttons because I prefer where they hit on me, but most of what I have seen, liked, and fit well recently has been a 3 roll 2.

Thanks!

Use the google search box for "3 roll 2" rather than the forum search box and you'll find lots of info on it. The bottom line is that it's a stylistic element, not a fit element.

Thanks to you both. That's really what I thought, but wanted to confirm from some of the SF experts.

Is it socially acceptable to wear a Woolrich parka over a suit when going to work? It looks fug, but it's 20 degrees here in NYC.

If the jacket fit is perfect, but the pants need to be recrafted, should I buy the suit? Assuming the suit is selling for pennies on the dollar.

By recrafted, I mean the pant essentially needs to be recut/resewn by the tailor. More or less asking him to make me a pair of pants with the existing material.

so i know you guys frown upon wearing black suits, but does the same thing apply to black dress pants? (no jacket)

also, what is your guys opinion on wearing black dress pants with a navy blue blazer? what color pants would go better if black is no good?

sorry if these are stupid questions, i'm pretty noobish when it comes to suiting, and i already searched to no avail.

Not good for many of the same reasons that black suits are not good. Black doesn't complement other colors as well as navy or gray, often looks cheap, evokes waiter and security guard uniforms, etc.

Black trousers with a navy jacket is a full-on faux paus. Do not do. It looks like you dressed in the dark and picked up the wrong trousers to your suit. What colors can you wear with a navy jacket? Gray, beige, olive, brown... almost anything except black and navy.

Do you have a tailor capable of doing that? It's not an easy job. If so, is the suit still a reasonable deal after factoring in the tailoring costs?

Bought a Ralph Lauren charcoal wool suit on the spur of the moment. Taking it to the tailor tomorrow to get the pants done. No cuffs right? (yeah, I'm that clueless).

^ Cuffs are strictly a personal preference - you'll find folks on here making a case for both if you do a search. I used to almost always have them, but have transitioned to cuffless which I find a cleaner look. Also, my torso is long and legs a bit short, so no cuffs help visually a bit.

I feel cuffs look better on pleated pants than flat front.

Is there a danger with a shoe tree being a little too large?

I have run into a problem with some shoe trees I bought for some boots I own. The XL that the box said is sized correctly for my boots doesn't fill out the toebox completely and is not helping prevent creases from forming. I just got some XXL large trees in the same brand and while they fill out the toebox, i'm worried they could be too big and will stretch the boots out. When I hold the XXL trees up to my boots they are actually a little longer then the soles and I have to push the springs in more then I normally do with my trees to make it fit.

I realize there is not "perfect fit" but I am just looking for ways to keep my boots looking good without possible stretching them out.
