Can someone post a photo of a glen check and a POW check. I am very confused as to which is which. Some members have explained it in words but it is difficult to understand from the description. Is the difference the overcheck which is present in one check and absent in the other ..

Thanks for your help

these look too informal to wear with some dark pants and buttondown, perhaps with a v-neck or a vest+tie. I am hoping someone can recommend a light suede ankle boot for ~ 200 or less. Not quite the baller folks in MW are, but I want to migrate away from SW&D and expand into more formalwear.

You'd probably have to get a slightly more darker colored boot than the one in your post. But try this link.

Yes, that is the difference. POW had a slight added color to it and glencheck is purely black/white.

I looked at the grenson oscar before, but again it seems too casual and reminds me of clarks db ... would this work better for more formalwear ?

I've recently started my first real job. The dress is on the more casual end of business casual. I can get away with wearing sneakers but I'd like to avoid that.
Since this is my first job I really don't have a srs wardrobe built up, and don't have the funds to throw down for any pricey purchases. For now I'd like to pick up a couple of appropriate shoes to get started. I'm thinking about grabbing a used pair or two off ebay. It looks like there are some good used deals there, but I don't really know what to look for.

Any suggestions?

PS: size 10

Checked out Thick as Thieves and it looks pretty awesome. Thanks!

Hello, budget college student here looking for proper job interview attire (retail, warehouse, customer service). Honestly, I don't know the first thing about the "rules" of men's clothing. I need help looking for a white(?) dress shirt, khaki(?) pants, belt(?), shoes(?), and maybe a tie.

Shirt : What should I be looking for, material wise? What kind of collar? And how do I determine sizing? Should I tuck in my shirt even for a retail job?
Belt: I am clueless.
Tie: Also clueless. Skinny or regular? Does material matter?
Pants: Khaki Dockers (flat front)...Unless there is something better?
Shoes: Clueless. I thought about buying new Chucks.

If it helps, I'm about 5 ft 6 in, 160lb, athletic build.

Should I bring everything to the tailor?

If anybody could push me in the right direction, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks.

Oxford is more casual than poplin and should go well with the Khaki pants (if that's what you want). Collar? I like button-downs because you can wear them easily without a tie. Sizing? The shirt should be long enough so that, when tucked, it doesn't pull. The sleeves should end at the point which your wrist begins to form your hand. Have a tailor size you up. And, biggest issue, DON'T allow your shirt to 'balloon' about your trousers when YOU TUCK IT IN!. Have a tailor slim it for you.

Belt? Black, leather belt; anything unpretentious.

Skinny ties, last I heard, were in. Buy silk. Make sure it ends at your belt (neither above or below), and don't tie a huge knot.

Khaki's fine.

Don't wear 'Chucks'. You're an adult - wear black leather lace-ups or loafers to match your belt. Likewise, your socks should match your pants.

Yes.

Yeah.. Just don't accept any advice you don't agree with. I'm more laid back than most here; some days I couldn't care less what I'm wearing.

Also, don't buy anything expensive unless you really want it - there's really no need.

I have a query, so I'm about to attend my first non-wedding black tie event and I was just wondering if I really need to wear a tux for the party. I usually get away with my charcoal grey, 3-piece suit and a bow tie but since this a black tie event to welcome the new year, I'm afraid that's just not gonna cut it...or would it? Thanks!

It's best to honor your host's wishes as best you can. If you have a concern, contact them and ask what you're expected to wear. They'll appreciate the courtesy and you'll be more comfortable.
