Ask A Question, Get An Answer... - Post All Quick Questions Here - Page 650

I can't believe I'm asking this question here, but I was at my tailor's, referring my friend for a suit and was there for the commission, and I got too excited and got myself another bespoke commissioned as well - it's a grey cloth with purple stripes. I like the fabric, it feels decent and I like the colors, but I'm about to pick it up and I have no idea what palette of colors I can make work with this thing... confused.gif Anybody with decent taste got any suggestions? I don't like anything loud.

Tried making a post about this, but it was held back because I just joined.  Then I noticed this thread.  Really need help finding a cap like this.  It is not an ordinary flatcap/newboy/driver's cap.  Note the very short brim, lack of button on top and a few other unusual details.  I have been searching on and off for over a year trying to find one of these.  Never even seen another one.  Please help!

Does anyone know what kind of jacket this is? I wanted to do a general search to find this type to buy, but have no idea where to start.

So is it acceptable (or semi-acceptable) to wear linen coats year-round, provided it's hot and sunny? I live in f*cking Texas, man. It's 108 out there. Our summers are just too hot for summer jackets.

Is there anything wrong with snap-up shirts for men compared to button-up shirts? I'm under the impression that snap-ups are more for younger people or little kids almost and pass up some good looking snap ups just because it's snap up and not buttons.

So I've been dying to figure out what brand these shoes in the following picture are...

Could anyone with a trained eye that could please help me ID them?

You bought a suit with purple stripes and you don't like anything loud. O....kay....

Since the suit itself is a kind of flamboyant statement piece, what you want to do is keep it simple and wear it with things that won't turn up the volume. So white or pale blue shirts with no pattern, black or dark brown shoes and belt, etc. Don't overthink this, man.

Probably tweed. You get those at various menswear shops. As for one in that particular Prince of Wales check, couldn't tell ya.

I tend to consider seasonal propriety a weather thing rather than a date thing. The historical development of menswear would support that. If it's still 85 in December, feel free to wear linen!

Depends. For dress shirts, snaps are a big no no. For casual shirts, go right ahead. They're very common on western styled shirts. Wear a short sleeve one in summer (tucked in) in place of a polo, or wear a long sleeve version in fall with a canvas jacket.

Is there a rule of thumb about how much the waist of a pair of trousers can be taken in before the overall look and shape is comprised?

Along with white and blue, cream may work, depending on the tone of the gray. I have a very light lilac Barba that might work with a very sober tie. I would stick with solid shirts.

What's a good store to buy casual clothes for a 62-year-old retired man?

I was leaning towards stores like J.CREW.

Mistake?

Good idea?

J Crew certainly works well enough. Plenty of other places where you can find adult casual pieces, but Jcrew has a decent selection of that style and makes quality stuff.
